WEEK 6 GAME-BY-GAME FANTASY NOTES
DEN/NYJ: Evan Engram leads the Broncos in targets, catches, and
receiving yards despite playing less than half the snaps... The Jets
ran the ball 31x and not a one of them gained more than 8 yards. It’s
a good spot this week, but this offense has the potential to look at
broken as any in the league
ARI/IND: Trey McBride is QB proof, but that’s it. Marv (concussion)
isn’t and this running game looks broken (24 attempts for 88 yards)... The Michael Pittman down game comes on a day where Josh Downs
scores and leads the team in receptions. This offense is very good,
but it’s awfully top-heavy for our purposes.
LAC/MIA: Ladd McConkey hits the bonus and makes the big play with
Quinten Johnston’s 8.2 targets vacated. Oronde Gadsden catching 7 of 8
targets (68 yards) is interesting... Darren Waller went more than 50
game minutes in between targets, but he scored, and that allows you to
still sell
NE/NO: Highlighted Kayshon Boutte in the rankings email and on a show
or two due to the non-pressed Maye numbers, love it when things work
out (5-93-2). He’s a matchup play at best, but that’ll work and is
worth tracking... Alvin Kamara has failed to reach 50 rushing yards
in four of six games and hasn’t scored since Week 1. He was a great
fantasy asset, he’s not right now.
CLE/PIT: This is a condensed target share, but it’s one of those
garbage-in, garbage-out situations. Quinshon Judkins is as featured as
anyone, and he’s the only Brown that holds my interest at all ... the
Steelers apparently spent the first five weeks setting up this single
double move from DK Metcalf, but it worked for a fourth quarter
25-yard TD. I’d still be happy to cash in this chip if you can get a
top 20 receiver.
DAL/CAR: George Pickens and Jake Ferguson both find the end zone for a
3rd straight game. It’ll be interesting to see where the targets go
with CeeDee Lamb potentially back this week ... Rico Dowdle becomes
the 6th player over the past decade with multiple 230+ yard games. Not
the 6th to do it in consecutive weeks, the 6th with 2+ games like that
in any capacity over that stretch. Derrick Henry, CMC, Saquon, Julio,
and Chase are the others.
SEA/JAX: Playing the QB position is hard, but it gets easier when
54.2% of your targets go to your WR1. Sam Darnold understands the
assignment... are we done with the Travis Hunter experiment for
redraft managers? He had the downfield catch in Week 5 against the
Chiefs, but he’s not earning valuable targets at a high level, and this
offense is having enough trouble getting their WR1 fed.
LAR/BAL: Puka Nacua’s status is TBD moving forward, and the offense
struggled without him (4.7 yards per play)... Derrick Henry cleared
100 yards and that’s great, but he got stuffed at the goal line
because, why would everything go right? The Ravens go on bye this week
and should have Lamar back after that. There’s an interesting buying
window if you have a decent record and think this team can essentially
win out (they come out of the bye with CHI/MIA and still have both CIN
games left on their schedule).
TEN/LV: Calvin Ridley goes down early, and that means there’s nothing
of interest here. Tony Pollard gets reasonable volume, but with Tyjae
Spears earning twice as many targets, I’m not sold that Pollard’s
boring production is a lineup lock moving forward ... Tre Tucker has
juice and probably needs to be on the back-end of more rosters, but
the Raiders are doing all they can to support a single fantasy asset
in Jeanty (25 touches). Michael Mayer scored 16 PPR points, and that
probably makes it even more difficult to count on Brock Bowers for top
5 TE production the rest of the way.
CIN/GB: Joe Flacco averaged 4.9 yards per pass, and yet, he somehow felt
like a massive improvement. At the very least, the majority of his
completions went to his two star receivers, and that’s all we can
really ask for ... Matthew Golden continues to make a play or two
weekly, but until the target share gets above 20% on a consistent
basis, he’s tough to trust in an offense that wants to run the ball
regularly.
SF/TB: Ricky Bullets was fun when active, and Kendrick Bourne has
picked up that role over the past two weeks. There is room for a deep
target in the Kyle Shanahan system: I’m fine with playing one of them
when the other is sidelined, but should we get both healthy, there’s
more risk involved (not to mention George Kittle’s likely return this
week) ... Emeka Egbuka goes down because that’s what Tampa Bay
receivers do. Baker Mayfield is tremendous, but I’m not considering
streaming any of his secondary pass catchers (Sterling Shepard, Kam
Johnson, Tex Johnson, or even Cade Otton in a season-long.)
DET/KC: Some designed looks for Jameson Williams give him an avenue to
provide weekly value, something we didn’t see through the first five
weeks ... We’ve done this before, but Isiah Pacheco certainly feels
like the back to roster here and with this offense positioned to take
off, that’s a player I want.
