Draft Note by John Paulsen
Pickens has been lighting up Pittsuburgh’s training camp to the point that beat writer Mark Kaboly said, “Honestly, I’ve never seen a rookie this good this early.” The Steelers drafted Pickens in the second round to replace JuJu Smith-Schuster while also adding Calvin Austin later. One wonders if the Pickens pick was also a shot across the bow of Chase Claypool, who regressed in his second season after a productive rookie year. There’s a non-zero chance that Pickens outgains Claypool in 2022.
