Draft note
by John Paulsen
I’m relatively low on Kamara for a non-football reason. He was arrested in Las Vegas for allegedly attacking a man as he was leaving a nightclub during the Pro Bowl weekend. Per the Las Vegas Review-Journal, “...video surveillance showed Kamara punching the victim repeatedly before other people with the football player stomped on the man while he was on the floor, the Metropolitan Police Department report stated.” Kamara’s first hearing was moved back nearly four months to August 1st. The delay increases the chances that he’ll be able to play a full season as the case makes its way through the legal system. But the video is key here. If it’s as damning as the police report says it is, and if it’s leaked or the NFL otherwise obtains it, it could force the league’s hand as far as a suspension is concerned. If he dodges a suspension, Kamara has top-five upside, but it should be noted that his touches were depressed (16.8 vs. 24.4) in the four games that he played with Mark Ingram. (The same thing happened in 2017-2018; Kamara saw 14.3 touches in 27 games with Ingram versus 22.8 touches in four games with Ingram sidelined.) Ingram is 32 years old now while Kamara is in his prime, but it’s something to note when projecting Kamara’s potential workload.

NO RB Alvin Kamara - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Panthers

Alvin Kamara did all he could against the Dolphins, but the deck was just way too stacked against the Saints because of COVID. Week 17 should be better, as the Saints may also get Taysom Hill back. That said, the Panthers held Kamara in check back in Week 2 with just 30 total yards, though he did catch four passes in that game. If there's a week for Kamara to snap his recent funk, it's this week. The Saints are in big trouble if he doesn't. He's still an RB1 just due to his weekly upside.
