Breakout Receiver Model: Week 15
Welcome back to the Breakout Receiver Model. The model is trained on the previous three weeks of data and updated weekly to spot players who may be over- or underperforming the value of their opportunities—whether due to luck, skill, or a mix of both. We’ll use it to identify buy-low and sell-high candidates for season-long managers and to surface main-slate players with more true ceiling potential than the public perceives. Let’s dig in.
About the Breakout Receiver Model
The 4for4 data science team, in conjunction with our award-winning projections expert John Paulsen, built the current iteration of a receiver “buy-low” model that uses machine learning to identify underperforming wide receivers and tight ends on the verge of a breakout. The model blends historical baselines with recent performance to determine which players have earned opportunity that is typically more valuable than their recent production suggests. Features include air yards and routes run to quantify opportunity, plus a proprietary efficiency metric that looks back over the last 10 weeks of individual performance to better estimate bounce-back likelihood. The most recent three weeks are weighted heaviest.
Underperforming Players (Buy-Low)
Top Buy-Low Players
Emeka Egbuka
At this point in the fantasy season, trades are mostly off the table, but weekly roster and start/sit decisions are still crucial. Egbuka opened the year in the elite tier of fantasy wide receivers, but his production has tapered off over time. Even so, he’s remained heavily involved in the Bucs’ offense all season — he has seen 8 or more targets in each of the last seven weeks.
Mike Evans is set to return this week, which should boost the overall efficiency of the Bucs’ offense and may shift some defensive attention away from Egbuka. Given his consistent volume and the potential offensive uptick, Egbuka could be a critical piece for fantasy rosters down the stretch.
Adonai Mitchell
Mitchell appears on this list for the third week in a row. DFS players are already well aware that he’s continued to rise in fantasy relevance, yet he’s still rostered in only 31.5% of season-long leagues. The quarterback situation isn’t ideal — Tyrod Taylor may sit with an injury and could be replaced by UDFA Brady Cook — but Mitchell’s steady role and target volume are hard to ignore.
He has 31 targets over the Jets’ last four games, and while the offense hasn’t been especially potent, a clear No. 1 option in almost any passing game is viable for fantasy purposes. Mitchell should be treated as a flex option in all formats for the rest of the season.

Overperforming Players (Sell High)
Top Sell-High Players
Harold Fannin Jr.
With NFL bye weeks in the rearview, positional scarcity at tight end will ease a bit going forward. The position still lacks many players who offer both a reliable floor and legitimate ceiling, so Fannin has been a solid option overall.
However, the Browns’ overall offensive output is significantly depressed, and while Fannin had a spike week last week, he still profiles as more of a mid-tier, borderline starter in fantasy. With more tight ends available each week, I'd consider other options before locking him into your lineups.
Jakobi Meyers
The trade to the Jaguars has been a clear positive for Jakobi Meyers’ fantasy value so far. That said, a significant portion of his recent production has been driven by touchdowns — he has found the end zone in each of the last three weeks.
Touchdown equity is one of the most fragile and volatile components of fantasy scoring. Without those scores, his recent weeks would have landed him closer to borderline flex territory. He’s a strong candidate for regression in the coming weeks, making this an opportune time to "sell high".

Top DFS Buy-Low Targets
Quantifying expected versus observed performance is core to projections. At 4for4, we produce site-specific fantasy-point projections; when outcomes lag expectation, salaries and ownership often drift. Players our model flags as breakout candidates—because their opportunity has outpaced recent results—can offer notable DFS value when their projections exceed this week’s prices.
