Team news: Las Vegas Raiders | Page 9

The Jaguars have released WR Gabe Davis, who was due $12.5M this season.

Related Players: Brian Thomas Jr., Travis Hunter, Brenton Strange, Dyami Brown

Davis played in only 10 games for Jacksonville last season, accruing a 20-239-2 stat line while playing mostly out wide. If he were to have stuck around, he likely would have been a deep rotational piece playing behind the newly-acquired Dyami Brown (and Travis Hunter).

The Browns are signing veteran WR Diontae Johnson, sources say. Cleveland brought the former Steelers and Ravens pass catcher in for a visit today, and the sides then agreed to a deal. Back to the AFC North for Johnson.

Related Players: Cedric Tillman, Jamari Thrash, Jerry Jeudy, DeAndre Carter, David Bell

This is a fantastic depth chart to land on for Johnson, but it would be all but impossible to trust him on fantasy squads after the tour of the NFL he's been on over the last year. If he gets cut and goes to the Bengals, he will have earned the ultra-rare Grand Slam tour of the entire division.

The Colts have released kicker Matt Gay, their kicker the last two seasons.

Related Players: Spencer Shrader

Shrader is next in line for kicking duties after this absolute bombshell.

Raheem Mostert tells me he’s signing a 1-year, $2.1 million deal with Raiders.

Former Dolphins RB made the Pro Bowl in 2023 rushing for over 1K yards and totaling 21 TDs. Still has good juice left for Vegas squad that wants to run the ball.

Related Players: Sincere McCormick, Zamir White, Dylan Laube

This is unlikely to be the last movement we see in the Raiders backfield before the offseason is over, but Mostert finds himself in a great spot to carve out a role in his age-33 season. Because of the wear on his tires and history with injuries, we should probably take a wait-and-see approach before we declare how useful he can actually be in fantasy.

Veteran WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling is signing with the Seahawks on a one-year deal worth up to $5.5 million, per sources.

Related Players: Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Jake Bobo, Dareke Young

This adds a little bit of depth to the wide receiver room and gives Sam Darnold a much-needed deep threat. Valdes-Scantling himself isn't much of a fantasy target himself though, as the 30-year-old will now be on his fourth team since the 2023 season.

WR Dyami Brown to the Jaguars on a one-year $10 million deal worth up to $12 million.

Related Players: Brian Thomas Jr., Parker Washington, Gabe Davis

This is more likely to cut into Davis's snap share than it will create a fantasy commodity out of Brown. Even with this signing, the Jaguars could very well add another pass-catcher before Spring is over.

Geno Smith is being traded to Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick, per sources.

Related Players: Aidan O'Connell, Desmond Ridder, Sam Howell

We'll see where the Seahawks end up landing, but we can presume that the answer probably isn't Sam Howell. As for the Raiders, they now have a far more consistent option to bridge the gap to their future franchise QB.

Jaguars plan to release veteran WR Christian Kirk, per source.

Related Players: Brian Thomas Jr., Gabe Davis, Parker Washington

Kirk will look for new employment on an increasingly fertile WR free agent landscape after a disappointing 27-catch 2024 performance in which he logged only eight games. Brian Thomas Jr. is already appropriately earmarked for a WR1 season, but this certainly doesn't hurt things.

Aidan O'Connell "should be good to go" and start at QB for the Raiders vs Jaguars, said LV coach Antonio Pierce

Related Players: Desmond Ridder

AOC should still be safely left on benches, but this is good news for Jakobi Meyers and Brock Bowers' fantasy bottom lines.

The Kirk Cousins era in Atlanta is over. There was one?

There was. For fourteen games. After five subpar performances, Cousins has been benched for rookie quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

It’s no surprise, given the things Morris said after Monday night’s unexpectedly tight win over the Raiders, and then earlier today, the story pointed out. As the story also added, it's a pretty stunning move considering the team is coming off a win, and they gave Cousins a contract with $100 million guaranteed. Of course, Penix was the eighth overall pick in the NFL Draft this past spring. It's tough to tell what fantasy owners will get if they need to start Penix this week, as it will be a bit of a risky call given it's likely a fantasy playoff game. The weapons are certainly there for him to have some success, and, it's a home game against the Giants. Owners can probably view him in the QB2 range for those type of leagues.
