Penix took over for Kirk Cousins late in the season, drawing the final three starts and posting an average of 246 yards and 1.0 touchdown as a passer. He was the fantasy QB18 in that span. He doesn’t offer much as a runner, so as a pocket passer, he’ll have to be very productive to turn into a fantasy starter. Drafters peg him as a low-end QB2/high-end QB3, and I tend to agree.

The first practice of Falcons OTAs is now underway and Kirk Cousins is not on the field. Cousins has made clear he wants to play elsewhere in 2025.

Fantasy Impact:

We've been anticipating a potential trade (Steelers?) for a few months now, but it's been pretty quiet on that front since the NFL Draft. If Cousins finds a Week 1 starting role somewhere, he will return to low-end QB2 range for SuperFlex leagues.

Michael Penix Jr. looked quite efficient in his first career start, though he spent more time handing the ball off while dismantling the Giants than actually dropping back to pass. Things should look a little different against the high-powered Commanders here in Week 17, but we're pretty confident the Falcons will try to keep things on the ground as much as possible. Pair that with Washington ranking 6th in QB aFPA, and Penix is an easy stay-away for Championship Week.
