Draft note
by John Paulsen
In his second season, Kirk played 13 games and finished as the No. 40 fantasy receiver with 68 catches (on 108 targets) for 709 yards and three touchdowns. He’d be ranked as a fantasy WR3 if not for the arrival of DeAndre Hopkins, who has seen 150+ targets in five straight seasons. That usage has to come from somewhere, so both Kirk and Larry Fitzgerald figure to see their targets drop in 2020.

ARI WR Christian Kirk - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
The Cardinals receivers' room had a sea change when DeAndre Hopkins arrived. Its impact on Christian Kirk will be interesting to watch, after a self-described "frustrating" 2019 season in which he battled ankle issues nearly all season. But Kirk said despite playing in pain he still made progress, and he is anxious to see himself within an offense loaded with promise behind quarterback Kyler Murray. "It'll be a little bit of pick your poison," Kirk said. "It's going to be fun."

Fantasy Downside
Sure, but will Kirk be among those having the fun? With Hopkins now around and Larry Fitzgerald coming back for another season, ESPN's Matthew Berry worries about Kirk getting enough looks. Hopkins was second in target share (28.8 percent), third in receptions per game and fourth in targets per game last season. The Cardinals didn't land him to play a complementary role. Meanwhile, Kirk had five games last season with fewer than seven targets. In those games, he had zero touchdowns and averaged merely 5.6 fantasy points per game and just over 20 yards per game.

2020 Bottom Line
FantasyPros pointed out that over the last 10 NFL seasons, of the 338 wide receivers who've seen at least 100 targets, 291 of them were able to finish as top-36 fantasy options. That's an 86.1 percent success rate. Those who failed to do that in 2019: Dede Westbrook; Kirk; and Fitzgerald. Don't overpay.
