Nico Collins had a breakout season, posting 80-1297-8 on 109 targets, finishing as the fantasy WR17. He fared well in Matt Harmon’s charting at Reception Perception: “As long as he just sustains this level of play, Collins will be a staple in the superstar tier of receivers for years to come.” While Collins is an emerging talent, his targets are under pressure with the arrival of Stefon Diggs. The good news is that Collins was very productive when Tank Dell was active (13.5 fantasy points from Week 1 to Week 12, low-end WR1 numbers) and then exploded for 126 yards per game in five healthy games without Dell. It remains to be seen how Diggs impacts the target pecking order, but given Stroud’s built-in chemistry with Collins and Dell, he may be the best real-world WR3 in the league.

Texans sign WR Nico Collins to 3-year, $72.75M extension

The Houston Texans and wide receiver Nico Collins have agreed to a three-year, $72.75 million extension that includes $52 million guaranteed. The contract has a maximum value of $75 million.

Collins, 25, is coming off a career-best season in which he had 80 receptions (ranked 23rd in the NFL last season) for 1,297 yards (ranked 8th) and eight touchdowns (tied for 8th) in 15 games.

Fantasy Impact:

Diggs is only playing on a one-year deal, as the Texans voided the final three years of his contract while giving him a $3.5M raise. If they allow him to walk next season, Collins will be the clear WR1, if he isn't already. Both receivers are good early-round options in fantasy drafts right now, with Tank Dell being an interesting option a few rounds later, even with Diggs in town.

HOU WR Nico Collins - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Chicago Bears

Perhaps we didn't have to worry about the addition of Stefon Diggs affecting Nico Collins- not that there ever was much of a worry. Collins was targeted eight times in Week 1 and racked up 117 receiving yards -- even with Diggs catching two touchdown passes. He had five 100-yard games last season and is already on track this season. A tough matchup awaits against Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson. Johnson was targeted twice last week against the Titans and did not allow a catch and had an interception. That said, Collins may still be peppered with targets and the connection between he and C.J. Stroud is too much to ignore. We still have Collins as a top-ten option this week.
