Dead Weight Report: Week 4 Fantasy Football Drop List

With so many injuries this season, it’s not the easiest to evaluate who to drop and when to actually do it. However, we need to evolve and make roster improvements, especially after some of the soul-crushing performances of Week 3.
Editor's Note: Check out the Week 4 Waiver Wire Watch!
Here are my recommendations for some players to cut loose ahead of Week 4, or at least keep a short leash on moving forward.
Rhamondre Stevenson, RB - Patriots
It may be a tad early to let Rhamondre Stevenson go, but it also could be a solid move that may save you the headache of dealing with a player deep in the dog house. Coming off an impressive Week 2 performance that included 142 yards from scrimmage and a score, Stevenson fumbled the ball twice at key moments on Sunday against Pittsburgh and did not return to the field following the second loss.
With rookie TreVeyon Henderson seeing double the touches (14-7) and 10% more snaps last week than Stevenson, this pattern will likely continue at least until Mike Vrabel gets over the fumble concerns. It’s also worth noting that Stevenson had seven fumbles last season on 204 carries, which was the most by any RB in 2024. It may be tough to straight-up drop the 27-year-old for the 80% of Yahoo managers currently rostering him, but at least know it won’t be pretty for a bit.
Travis Hunter, WR - Jaguars
This feels akin to the lord and savior Kyle Pitts coming out of college, where the hype was so severe that the pain is tangible in the fantasy football realm. Travis Hunter hasn’t eclipsed 64% of snaps in a game, and that was in Week 1; the percentage has decreased with each subsequent contest. He’s fourth on his own team in half-PPR scoring per game (4.2) and is the WR83 in that category.
Trevor Lawrence is having trouble supporting Brian Thomas Jr., and Dyami Brown and Parker Washington are also in the mix. Hunter is just lost in the sauce for now, at least, and is not worth the weekly mental anguish.
Hollywood Brown, WR - Chiefs
Most of the 58% of you who currently have Hollywood Brown on your rosters likely picked him up off the waiver wire after a 16-target Week 1 outing, but that appears to be an outlier. The WR has seen just 11 total balls in the past two weeks, which he’s turned into an average of just 5.9 points per tilt in half-PPR scoring.
Xavier Worthy has a chance to be back this week, and Tyquan Thornton is emerging as a go-to weapon for Patrick Mahomes. We can’t forget about Rashee Rice’s eligibility to return in Week 7, making Brown not worth hanging onto unless you are desperate for WR depth.
Dylan Sampson, RB - Browns
We’ve seen a sharp decline in volume for Dylan Sampson, as he went from 20 touches in Week 1 to seven the next week, and just one in Week 3. The Week 2 arrival of Quinshon Judkins, who has averaged 16 touches per contest over the last two weeks, signaled the end of any fantasy relevance for Sampson, barring a significant injury. Sampson is droppable for the 53% of Yahoo managers hanging onto the rookie.
Josh Downs, WR - Colts
He was listed as On Thin Ice in Week 2, and the frozen pond has given way for Josh Downs. The Indy wideout is averaging 4.9 in half-PPR scoring on a per-game basis through three very productive games for the Colts, and is clearly behind Michael Pittman and Tyler Warren in the passing game hierarchy. Feel free to hang on for another week if you need him, but the waiver wire likely has some higher-floor options like Elic Ayomanor, Christian Kirk, or even Jalen Tolbert as a temporary fill-in.
Jayden Higgins, WR- Texans
Jayden Higgins has just five total targets through three contests, which has translated to only 65 yards and no touchdowns on his career stat sheet. Christian Kirk returned last week to claim the spot behind Nico Collins, and the current state of the Houston offense can’t support anything more than that. Higgins is better served on the waiver wire or someone else’s roster.
