WEEK 8 GAME-BY-GAME FANTASY NOTES
MIA/ATL:
Tua was lights out in a weatherproof game? Not really all that crazy. They play their next two at home against Pro Bowl level QBs and have home games in Weeks 16-17 against (likely) Pro Bowl QBs ... congrats to those of you who played Tyler Allgeier in hopes of a garbage time TD: you got it, even if the garbage time worked in the exact opposite direction as “planned”.
NYJ/CIN:
Breece Hall looks the part in a great matchup, and Fields wasn’t terrible, so that was nice ... Without Sauce Gardner and with the most concentrated offense, Ja’Marr Chase racks up the volume, tough to think that stops any time soon. I always wondered what would happen if the Rockets told Kevin Durant just to shoot on 70% of possessions. This is the football version of that, and they are scoring in bulk.
CLE/NE:
It was a tough matchup for both running games, but Harold Fannin, even with David Njoku active, continues to produce ... The BOUTEE MAN scores for the fourth time in three weeks.
NYG/PHI:
Cam Skattebo was wearing his ankle on sideways, and that means Jaxson Dart is the lone Giant we have any real interest in (not buying much value for Tyron Tracy in the coming months outside of just a volume option) ... Dallas Goedert continues to score on an absurd percentage of his targets. If you can move him, I would: this offense has had problems sustaining one pass catcher.
BUF/CAR:
216 rush yards for James Cook through three quarters, the third most in a game during the 2000s ... This CAR backfield is a poor man’s version of NE: the more talented back gets the wrong side of the split. The difference is that New England’s offense moves the ball.
CHI/BAL:
The Bears didn’t score for over 32 minutes of game time against the Ravens. Maybe Baltimore’s health is the note, but I can’t imagine being confident in any Chicago player not named DeAndre Swift or Rome Odunze ... Derrick Henry was ordinary, and Zay Flowers got his targets. They got their win, and hopefully we see Lamar on Thursday night; otherwise, the upside is obviously limited.
SF/HOU:
Kittle scores, but that’s about it. I worry that the return of Brandon Aiyuk (potentially sooner than later) could make all of these WRs unreliable ... Without his top-2 receivers and dealing with a Dalton Schultz injury, of course, C.J. Stroud goes off. I’m not reading into this, but I do like it for Nico Collins, eventually.
TB/NO:
Not much was required of this offense, so they didn’t give you much. Emeka Egbuka scored only 6.5 PPR points, but a 37.5% target share is good enough for me to feel fine moving forward ... My guy Rashid Shaheed catches 9 balls, and it should have been more (34-yard TD was airmailed instead of completed). Not all concentrated offenses are consistent, but they are all interesting in different ways, and this qualifies as one of them.
DAL/DEN:
Pickens and Lamb combine for 19 of 35 targets in an otherwise ugly day for the Dallas offense ... Troy Franklin and RJ Harvey impress, but I need another week of sustained usage before buying this as anything more than #CowboysWeek.
TEN/IND:
Chimere Dike has 16+ PPR points in consecutive games with Calvin Ridley out: maybe something to watch whenever the WR1 for Tennessee is sidelined... it seems like every week, Jonathan Taylor’s numbers trend closer to what Derrick Henry did in high school. I’m only half kidding. He has three rushing TDs or a TD catch in five of his past seven games and largely looks unstoppable. Michael Pittman is the only WR I feel good about in this offense that feels like it should have more to offer at that position. That, and if you wanna wager on Alec Pierce's longest catch every week.
GB/PIT:
Jordan Love saw the field great all night, and with Jayden Reed and, to a lesser extent, Dontayvion Wicks still due to come back, this Packers team is one to target if you’re streaming for hope at any point (no one is safe, but everyone is viable) ... This Steelers offense is just so boring. They get the Colts, Chargers, and Bengals over the next three weeks: their record figures to keep correcting to the norm into November.
