Parris Campbell had the inside track for the Philadelphia Eagles third wide receiver job when training camp started. He has some catching up to do.

A groin injury sidelined Campbell for several practices as Britain Covey, Johnny Wilson, and John Ross emerged as candidates for the third wide receiver job. In terms of the pecking order, Covey and Wilson have passed Campbell.

Campbell seemed like a sure-thing to land this job much of the spring but now injuries may cost him a spot on the team. The Eagles WR3 traditionally hasn't been a huge fantasy factor anyway the last several years, mostly because Goedert is the better target at TE. It may be worth watching Wilson, however. Reports are the rookie is having a good camp so far.

The standoff between receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers may be coming to a conclusion soon.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, the 49ers and Steelers have a deal for a potential Aiyuk trade in place. The Steelers also are “in a good place” with Aiyuk on a new contract. If the 49ers give their final sign-off, the deal will be done.

The story went on to say San Francisco also has an offer out to Aiyuk on a long-term deal for him to remain with the club that, but to this point, Aiyuk has not accepted. The story added it’s currently unclear what Pittsburgh would send back to San Francisco in exchange for Aiyuk, but it would likely be a significant package. If the deal goes through, the Niners would be looking at Pearsall, Jenning and Cowing to move up the depth chart, while in Pittsburgh, Aiyuk and Pickens form the 1-2 punch.

Dak Prescott didn’t play in Sunday’s preseason game against the Rams, and he isn’t expected to play in the next two either. He hasn’t taken a snap in a preseason game since 2019.

Prescott, though, will return to practice Tuesday when the Cowboys get back on the field.

“One thousand percent,” Prescott said, via Todd Archer of ESPN.

Prescott sat out Friday’s practice for precautionary reasons after a joint practice with the Rams on Thursday left him with ankle soreness. Prescott was also seen last month with a boot on his foot, the story said.

It’s one day in pads but Rico Dowdle is the best RB here and there’s not a lot to argue about there.

It was just a day ago it looked like, based on comments from Stephen Jones, Freeman may end up as the team's RB2 behind Elliott, and Dowdle might be battling with Davis to just make the final roster. It was just one day, but it's another example how quickly things can change. This will be a situation to watch because Elliott isn't expected to dominate the backfield like in days past, so the RB2 should have some fantasy value.

Rookie wideout Roman Wilson was carted off the field after getting hurt during Tuesday’s practice. Reporters at the workout said it looked like Wilson injured his left foot or ankle.

There is no further word on the how serious the injury is. But any missed time in camp for a rookie can be bad news. We reported on Monday that while there are high hopes for Wilson to take on the team's WR2 role, he was running behind Austin in the pecking order.

Panthers placed veteran RB Rashaad Penny on the reserve/retired list Tuesday. The 28-year-old Penny played five years for the Seahawks and spent last season with the Eagles.

Penny barely saw action last year with the Eagles coming off a strong half season with the Seahawks back in 2022, this was despite the Eagles need for a bigger, bruising back. This season in Carolina, Penny was likely well behind the rookie Brooks, Hubbard and Sanders in the Panther backfield.

Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones said on 1053 The Fan that veteran RB Royce Freeman has “really impressed.”

“We were just talking about it last night at the scout dinner, ‘What in the hell was he doing sitting around out there?’ An interesting guy to just have been sitting there. He’s a great 2-3 combination in terms of what he can do as a backup. He’s a big, thick guy. And he’s a hell of a special teams player as well. He’ll be a good addition and great complement to (Ezekiel Elliott). And then we’ll let these young guys between (Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis) and those guys battle it out.”

The post said the Cowboys were surprised Freeman was available when they signed him to a one-year deal in April. This could be just talk, but the thought by many was the Zeke and Dowdle would be the Cowboys 1-2 punch at running back. However, the comment by Jones indicates that Freeman could have a much bigger role. For those of you in dynasty leagues, and Freeman is on the wire, he may be worth picking up just in case.

Steelers WR Roman Wilson has been coming out of his shell at training camp. He stacked great days over the weekend, making his best catch as a pro on Sunday, and he seems to be developing some rapport with Fields and Kyle Allen.

The story said it hasn’t been a secret that Wilson didn’t have a great OTAs and minicamp with the Steelers. Wilson has a chance to win the Steelers WR2 role and likely just needs to pass Jefferson to do so. Austin, who was also listed in the story as a camp "winner" will be in the mix as well. Wilson is a third round pick from this past spring.

Dak Prescott gives an update on why he was recently wearing a walking boot. He says there’s “absolutely nothing” wrong with his ankle.

The QB dismissed concerns about his surgically-repaired ankle, writing off soreness due to a couple hard practices. It seems like the boot was more precautionary than anything, but it's a situation we'll keep an eye on.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott, spotted here in a protective walking boot, is dealing with a very minor foot sprain and has been for a few days. It’s not considered to be anything that should affect his preparation for 2024.

A walking boot doesn't sound especially "minor", but we'll keep an eye out for updates over the next week. Former first round pick Trey Lance could be an interesting stash for deep Dynasty leagues where he remains on the waiver wire.
