Baltimore Ravens quarterback and reigning NFL MVP Lamar Jackson has missed the past two training camp practices because of a groin injury, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The good news is Jackson is slated to return to action on Monday, sources said. After Sunday's practice, coach John Harbaugh described Jackson's injury as a "soft-tissue" one but wouldn't expand beyond that.

Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams didn’t make it through Sunday’s practice and he’ll be spending time with doctors as a result.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Williams is headed for tests on his shoulder.

Williams went down on his right arm while trying to make a catch in Sunday’s practice and left the field after going down. Rapoport adds that Williams’ collarbone was not injured and that the team is optimistic that he avoided a serious injury. Any absence will increase the opportunities for Jennings, Reed and Hill to see time with Keenan Allen at wideout. We just had a story earlier Sunday about the rest of the Charger WRs who are looking to earn the WR3 job this season. With Williams out, it could be an opportunity for multiple WRs to step up.

Quarterback Lamar Jackson missed a second straight practice on Sunday, which led to a question for head coach John Harbaugh about his condition.

“We’ve got a couple guys — Marcus Peters is another one and Justice Hill is another one — who have some soft tissue things. Just rather be safe with those guys right now and give those things a chance to get better and be right,” Harbaugh said.

It doesn't sounds serious, which is the good news. But the bad news is you just never know with these kind of injuries. The Ravens are going to be safe with their star QB, and we'll continue to monitor.

Adrian Peterson, who has played with and through plenty of injuries over the years, avoided an ankle injury on Sunday.

“Everything is good,” Peterson told reporters. “My left ankle got kind of twisted up and caught. Thank God it came free. That little expression you heard was when it was tweaked and then came free. I was like, ‘Thank you Jesus.’ It could’ve been bad. But, yeah, I’m good.”

It's good news for AP, who is getting a little lost in the Washington RB talk lately with all the positive news about Love. Gibson, the rookie, is a hot name as well, and we think the back to own in this offense, but expect Peterson to get some work as well.

Bears fans who were hoping the team's quarterback competition would have an obvious winner early in training camp aren't going to like what coach Matt Nagy had to say Sunday. The drama under center isn't going away for a while.

"It's not gonna happen soon. We're going to take our time with it," Nagy said.

This shouldn't come as a surprise, the story said. Trubisky and Foles are about as even of a quarterback matchup as you can have. It's Trubisky's draft pedigree and physical traits versus Foles' ability to manage the offense while also rising above expectations when games matter most. Trubisky is the hope for a brighter future. Foles is the insurance policy for a run right now. Deciding between those two interests is really difficult, and as Nagy suggested, it takes time in order to make the right call, the story all said.

Rookie wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk clearly established himself among the top – if not the top – wide receiver on the field during the first week of 49ers camp.

But Aiyuk’s status for the short term now is tenuous due to a hamstring injury he sustained during practice on Sunday morning.

The 49ers did not immediately provide an update on Aiyuk's status. Aiyuk and Bourne have established themselves as the top wide receivers with Taylor consistently playing in the slot. The 49ers hope to have Deebo Samuel back for the regular-season opener after he underwent surgery in June to repair a Jones fracture.

John Ross was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list when he left the team earlier this month in order to help care for his son and his son’s mother after they tested positive for the coronavirus. The Bengals announced on Sunday that Ross has been activated from the list.

Ross will look to be the speed threat in the Bengal offense behind Green and Boyd, but he's not seeing a lot of action in typical draft formats.

Through two days of open practice with the Washington Football Team, Bryce Love has certainly looked quite promising in individual drills and full-squad work. The offensive backfield still needs to be sorted out — Antonio Gibson is someone else who could be primed for a lot of usage now that Derrius Guice is gone — but as HC Ron Rivera described, Love could very well carve out a huge role right away.

"He's a guy that's multi-dimensional," Rivera continued. "At Stanford, he didn't have to do a lot of routes and pass catching, but he's very capable and we're getting to see that. This is a guy that could be an every-down back for you. He's an explosive, dynamic player."

Even the story indicated it may be too much and too early to have all this love for Love. But he's certainly someone to watch. We continue to favor Gibson as the back to own on Washington. We rank Gibson 32nd among our RBs. Veterans like Peterson and Barber could see their share of early-season work until the younger players are up to speed.

Justin Jackson and rookie Joshua Kelley are neck and neck in the race for the No. 2 running back job behind Austin Ekeler.

Jackson started the week with a sizable lead after making a handful of long rushing gains in Monday’s and Tuesday’s workouts.

On Wednesday, Lynn said Kelley’s head was swimming with learning the new offense. Lynn changed his tone after Kelley ended the week with three impressive practices to narrow the gap on Jackson.

The story said by the end of the week, Kelley was running with the first team. The story went on to say Kelley might have the edge because he fills the role of the power running back, but Jackson continues to churn out yards at a high rate. Jackson has displayed power between the tackles and Kelley has made catches from the backfield.

Rookie wide receiver K.J. Hill had the best Week 1 of training camp among wide receivers not named Keenan Allen or Mike Williams. Hill was open often and rarely had an incomplete target.

The Chargers are seeking speed at their WR3 spot, but Hill doesn't necessarily fit the bill. Jalen Guyton’s blazing speed gave him first crack for the No. 3 role. He received most of the first-team reps, but struggled to find chemistry with quarterback Tyrod Taylor. The results weren’t good when Taylor targeted him, the story said. The piece added with Hill stepping up, it may force the Chargers hand. Reed and Jennings are also candidates.
