6 Fantasy Football Tight Ends Primed to Break Out in 2026
No position in fantasy football has to be looked at from a “stars or scrubs” approach quite like tight end. There are basically four to five tight ends you can choose from if you want consistent, week-in-and-week-out production. After that, you’ll be looking for someone to far outkick their projections or break out.
Below, I point out potential breakouts at the tight end position with the help of Stephen Hoopes’ study on predictable positional stats. Combining the stickiest stats with the best offensive atmospheres should give us an idea of who can jump up a tier or leapfrog a number of tight ends going before them in average draft position (ADP).
A Look Back at 2025
All things told, I’d say we did pretty well in this exercise last year. We didn’t have the explosive Brock Bowers or Jonnu Smith performances of the year prior, but six of the seven essentially met or exceeded their ADP. Likely was an easy drop after missing the first three weeks of the season and never getting up to speed, but we saw some explosive performances from Warren and Loveland as they were quickly integrated into ascending offenses.
| Player | Team | 2025 ADP | 2025 TE Finish (PPG) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tyler Warren | Colts | TE11 | TE10 (8.9) |
| Dalton Kincaid | Bills | TE14 | TE11 (8.9) |
| Hunter Henry | Patriots | TE18 | TE12 (8.8) |
| Colston Loveland | Bears | TE12 | TE14 (8.5) |
| Brenton Strange | Jaguars | TE21 | TE18 (7.9) |
| Theo Johnson | Giants | TE32 | TE23 (7.0) |
| Isaiah Likely | Ravens | TE22 | TE44 (3.4) |
There were many unknowns about these players heading into the 2025 season, but we can learn from those results. Beyond the sticky stats we’ll dig into below, we should also look for volatile or ambiguous pass-catching situations where a tight end can climb the target hierarchy, particularly if there’s a path to more work around the end zone.
When searching for that breakout talent at tight end, these are the year-to-year stats we tend to lean on in identifying potential candidates, in the order of stickiest correlation:
- Receptions/Game
- Targets Per Route Run
- Catch Rate Over Expectation
- Pass Rate Over Expectation
- Yards After Catch/Reception
2026 Breakout Candidates
Let’s apply some of the scenarios we saw last year and in prior seasons to find comparable situations ahead of 2026. Opportunity is obviously important, but we also want players who have already shown the ability to earn targets or create production when they’re actually sent into routes.
Those opportunities can come in a number of ways. Some of these players have lost target competition over the offseason, others are entering Year 2 with a clearer role, and a couple are simply being afforded the chance to play significantly more football than they did a season ago.
