Team news: Kansas City Chiefs | Page 16

On a day of players getting cut, here’s a fun story of one guy who made it: RB/FB Carson Steele is on the Chiefs’ initial 53-man roster.

Steele is certainly a name to watch. Pacheco seems like the only safe bet on the roster at RB at this point. Despite the team's use of CEH in the past, someone like Steele could continue the climb up the depth chart and be fantasy relevant. We put him as the team's RB3 at this point. As part of cuts today, the team did let go of Prince.

Kadarius Toney’s time with the Chiefs has come to an end.

According to multiple reports, Kanas City is waiving Toney on Tuesday.

Reports say the Chiefs had been looking for a trade partner for Toney. Toney struggled in 2023 with multiple drops leading to interceptions, the story pointed out. The Chiefs will be fine at WR with youngsters like Rice, Worthy and Moore.

This is a big week for the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterbacks. It’ll be the first week that Russell Wilson can go in practice without restrictions. As such, it’ll give the Pittsburgh coaches their first real side-by-side look at Wilson and Justin Fields. And while the Steelers have maintained that Wilson’s in pole position, Fields has had a lot more reps this summer in new coordinator Arthur Smith’s offense than Wilson has.

Breer went on to say the offense as a whole has struggled, with some moving parts on the line and depth issues at receiver. Breer added the coaches are playing the starters more in preseason games as a result, to try to give the players a shot to work through their growing pains now, rather than doing it in September. But it hasn’t helped make the quarterback picture any less murky to this point, the story went on to say.

The Chiefs expect Hollywood Brown to return early in the regular season. Reid was noncommittal about Brown's chances of playing in the team's Sept. 5 opener against the Baltimore Ravens, saying only, "We'll see.''

The article continues, "The early beneficiary of Brown's absence in practice is Justin Watson, who is taking many of the snaps that would have gone to Brown."

If we knew that Brown were to miss multiple regular season games, Watson would be a little more interesting, but he should remain undrafted in most fantasy leagues. He could be worth a dart throw in *very* deep drafts or in large-field tournaments for differentiation.

Chiefs rookie RB Carson Steele had his most reps with the 1s and 2s today out of all the days at camp.

Chiefs are giving him a long look after his standout game Saturday, the post said. The post also added a quote from OC Matt Nagy: "What I like about him is, right now, he's doing a lot of good things and being in the right spot at the right time, and you can trust him." The Chiefs aren't necessarily deep at RB. CEH didn't practice today and hasn't proved to be an exciting option. Prince and Ingram are familiar names but if Steele has a chance to get snaps in this offense, fantasy owners should follow this situation.

Chiefs WR Hollywood Brown is expected to miss four to six weeks with the sternoclavicular injury he suffered, per multiple sources.

Doing the math, opening night is three weeks from this Thursday night. KC opens up at home vs. Baltimore and then Cincinnati. The timetable certainly puts the Baltimore game in doubt but it's possible if recovery goes well, Brown could return for Week 2. With Brown out, rookie Worthy seems to have the biggest chance to produce early on this season behind Rice.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that QB Russell Wilson is dealing with a calf issue that he woke up with and he’s considered day-to-day. Justin Fields took the first-team reps.

A murky situation continues to get murky, and it's unlikely to clear up any time soon. Wilson was reportedly the shoo-in as the lead guy through times this summer, but if Fields ends up shining with his opportunities, we can imagine that sentiment flipping. We'll keep an eye on the situation, but neither QB is an obvious click in fantasy as it currently stands.

Chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco says that he worked to get more flexible.

Goldman also added in his post that Pacheco worked with the wide receiver coach as well, which could be an indication of more targets in 2024. We currently rank Pacheco 11th on our RB list and project him for 45 receptions this season. The Chiefs really didn't address their RB room so Pacheco leads the way over CEH and Prince.

Travis Kelce turns 35 in October and acknowledged he's a lot closer to the end of his football career than the beginning. But he said he's not planning on 2024 being his final season.

"I love coming to work every single day and doing this, so I am going to do it until the wheels fall off and hopefully that doesn't happen anytime soon,'' Kelce said after the Kansas City Chiefs' minicamp practice Tuesday.

Kansas City has added insurance here and there over the years since their offense is so TE-friendly, but as long as Kelce is on the field he is going to be a driving force to the team. His regular season workload could very well decline, but that still makes him a huge asset in fantasy.

Veteran WR Mecole Hardman is re-signing with the Chiefs on a one-year deal, per source. A hero in Super Bowl LVIII after a brief stint with the Jets, Hardman is back in Kansas City.

Related Players: Rashee Rice, Skyy Moore, Justin Watson, Kadarius Toney

Hardman finished with 33 targets in eight games during his last stint with the Chiefs, so he doesn't have much standalone value. He puts the squeeze on the back-half of the rotation, though.
