Dead Weight Report: Week 9 Fantasy Football Drop List
We have four teams watching from home or a restful vacation spot this week, along with a myriad of injuries plaguing the league, but there are still drops to be had and moves to be made.
We should always be looking for roster improvements, so cutting players who aren’t producing is a necessary evil.
Editor's Note: Check out the Week 9 Waiver Wire Watch!
Matthew Golden, WR - Packers
He’s been limited to just 43 total yards in the last two weeks on seven receptions, and Matthew Golden could keep going down this low-production road. The rookie has yet to find the end zone this season, plus he hasn’t seen more than six looks in a contest, and that was only once thus far. And now Christian Watson is back to murk up the targets even further.
Golden is solid in dynasty and keeper leagues, but if you need some room, his fantasy value may not appear this season.
Darnell Mooney, WR - Falcons
He was in the ideal spot to produce last week with Drake London on the shelf, but Darnell Mooney caught just one of his four targets for 11 yards against Miami. That was actually Mooney’s lowest output of the season thus far, and London will be back sooner rather than later. Send the Atlanta WR back to the wire in favor of someone with a higher floor like Chimere Dike or Troy Franklin.
Dalton Schultz, TE - Texans
Despite Houston’s top receivers, Nico Collins and Christian Kirk, being on the shelf last week, Dalton Schultz had his lowest output of the season so far with a meager line of 2-24-0. Collins may be back this week, and they face the Broncos, which won’t be an easy feat.
The Texans schedule doesn't exactly lighten up for TEs as five of their remaining defenses sit eighth or better in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed (aFPA) to the position in 2025. Some decent waiver wire options have emerged in recent weeks, like Oronde Gadsden and Harold Fannin, who could outproduce Schultz down the stretch.
Marvin Mims, WR - Broncos
He entered the concussion protocol at some point during the Week 8 contest against Dallas, and it will be tough for Marvin Mims to clear before a tough matchup in Houston on Sunday. Fellow Denver WR Troy Franklin broke out for 6-89-2 on eight targets while Mims saw just one ball despite being out there for 53% of the snaps. You can hang on if you want in deep leagues since the Broncos are heating up, but Mims can be dropped in 10 -12 team formats.
Justice Hill, RB - Ravens
His role in the Ravens offense continues to diminish, as Justice Hill saw just one touch last week despite being on the field for 31% of the snaps. Hill is entirely game script dependent for his blitz pickup and occasional pass-catching, and with Derrick Henry the clear alpha of that backfield, he’s fighting for leftovers with Keaton Mitchell, who saw four touches in Week 8 despite only being in for 3% of the 183 Baltimore snaps. Even if Henry were to miss time, Hill isn’t going to make the cut fantasy-wise, so set him free.
More drops: Michael Carter, Evan Engram, Spencer Rattler, Xavier Legette
