Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Watch Week 2: Jeff Wilson is no Castaway
As a refresher, The Drop List consists of players who are rostered in at least 50% of Yahoo leagues and are no longer must-have assets, recommended additions are available in over 50 percent of Yahoo leagues, the Watch List contains in-depth notes on fringe waiver adds, and Deep Cuts includes player notes on those rostered in five percent or fewer of Yahoo and FFPC leagues.
The Drop List
- QB: Dak Prescott
- RB: Elijah Mitchell
- WR: -
- TE: Cole Kmet, Hunter Henry
Dak Prescott’s (thumb surgery) initial timeline is “6-8 weeks” with team doctors reportedly eyeing the maximum absence, presumably putting Prescott back on the field following the team’s Week 9 bye. In shallower leagues with few bench spots and no IR, I’m fine parting with Dak rather than rostering a second QB through November (who could be out even longer than expected).
Elijah Mitchell (MCL) will reportedly miss "about two months", which logically keeps him sidelined through San Francisco's Week 9 bye. I'm comfortable dropping him for Jeff Wilson as an apples-to-apples trade on waivers in shallow leagues that do not have an IR slot.
If Cole Kmet’s lone target (and 5.8% share) from Justin Fields wasn’t bad enough, he quietly ran just 17 routes to Ryan Griffin’s 10 in a TE committee, staying into run-block on 30-of-48 snaps. I don't think it's necessarily pressing to drop him in deeper leagues, but Kmet made this list since I prefer the top-three TEs prioritized in the rankings below.
Matt Patricia’s offense went as expected, uncreatively scheming just two play-action snaps throughout New England's Week 1 loss and ending with Mac Jones undergoing X-Rays on his back. Henry’s touchdown-or-bust outlook in this bland offense is not enticing in the least, especially since he practically split routes with Jonnu Smith 29 to 19.
Albeit nothing more than a backup in Los Angeles’ offense, I am not dropping Cam Akers just yet since Darrell Henderson has historically suffered from chronic ankle injuries dating back to his time at Memphis. I’ve ranked Akers in the Contingency Top 10 accordingly (scroll down) since he’s purely an every-touch stash option in the event Henderson is injured.
