49ers coach Kyle Shanahan with following injury updates:

WR Deebo Samuel (groin) -- It's a strain. Expected to miss 1-2 weeks.

Samuel will miss Week 13, an away game at Seattle, but the team hopes to have him back for Week 14, an early game at Cincy. The good news is owners will have time to adjust lineups if he's a game-time call in Week 14. Samuel had been seeing more work as a runner so Aiyuk and Jennings likely lead the way as receivers while Mitchell and Wilson should eat up Samuel's carries.

Jauan Jennings averaged six offensive snaps over his first seven games. That average has jumped to 30 in the last three. What’s more, it’s clear Jimmy Garoppolo and Kyle Shanahan are gaining trust in him. The 49ers targeted Jennings twice in the deep red zone, and he would have had two touchdowns had his knee hit the ground an inch inside the sideline on the second target. Jennings also was the target on Garoppolo’s first third-down pass — a 21-yard first down — and was worked into the trick play that resulted in a holding penalty on Minnesota’s Patrick Peterson.

Jennings began the season as the team's WR5, but could end up at the team's WR2 assuming Samuel (groin) misses at least Week 13. Even when Samuel returns, Jennings could still have a role as Samuel has been used more as a running back over the last couple of weeks.

The good new is, it’s not considered a major injury, the source said. Samuel was used more as a runner in Week 12 so this may not even create more targets for guys like Aiyuk, Sanu and Jennings. But, it may get Mitchell and Wilson more rushing opportunities. Wilson had just two carries while Mitchell went for 27-133-1 while adding five catches for 33 yards. Owners should probably figure on Samuel missing at least Week 13, with the hope of him returning for Week 14, or at worst, the fantasy playoffs.

When a coach singles you out, as was the case with Trent Sherfield and Jauan Jennings, that’s a terrific sign that they’ll make the roster.

We know Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk are locks to make the roster. So let’s add Mohamed Sanu to the list, which leaves one spot for Jalen Hurd, Nsimba Webster, River Cracraft, and Richie James.

The story says the 49ers top guys should remain at the top of the depth chart, but it's possible Shanahan was trying to get the attention of Samuel and Aiyuk, the author went on to say. It's seems to be a crowded position, but keep an eye out for Sherfield and Jennings.
