QB Matthew Stafford (back) will work out on Saturday, Sean McVay said. The workout will be similar to what he did on Aug. 9.

“Hopefully [his back] responds a little bit better,” McVay said.

Sean McVay on Matthew Stafford's back injury: "We're trying to get our hands around this as well, so I don't really have much more information other than think we're trying some different things that are hopefully going to be in alignment with getting him back out on the field."

These aren't glowing reviews regarding his availability for Week 1, but it'd be all speculation to guess when he gets on the field at this point. Keep Stafford low in the QB2 pecking order until we get some better news.

Jimmy Garoppolo struggled in the win over the Packers on Monday night, throwing for 208 yards, a touchdown, and a pick. He’s been turnover prone this year, with a 6/7 TD/Int ratio through five games.

This week, Garoppolo has a tough matchup against his former team. The Patriots defense ranks 4th in aFPA to opposing quarterbacks. With two struggling offenses, this could be a low-scoring, disappointing affair for both passing games. If you can look elsewhere this week, keep Jimmy on the bench or on waivers.
