Giants 'doubt' that David Wilson needs surgery

Giants RB David Wilson injured his neck on Oct. 6 in a game against the Eagles, and was later diagnosed with a herniated disc and spinal stenosis. It was initially thought he’d miss 3-4 weeks, but he was reevaluated on Monday and team doctors declined to clear him to play.

There remains at least a possibility that Wilson’s condition will be career-ending, though sources say the Giants still are hoping their 2012 first-round draft pick will be able to return next season.

Asked if Wilson will need surgery on his neck, Tom Coughlin said, “I doubt that.” A team source said nothing has been determined yet and more won’t be known until Wilson’s neck is reevaluated by doctors again in “several weeks.”

“I don’t know what to think (long-term) because it’s obvious that medically there’s no green light,” Coughlin said. “So we’re still in a holding pattern, believing that he’s going to get better.”

Fantasy Impact:

It was a lost season for Wilson, who came into the season as a breakout RB but never really got going. He finally scored his first touchdown against the Eagles in Week 5 and then promptly injured his neck. Andre Brown looks like the back to own in the Giants' backfield, but Peyton Hillis is expected to get the start in Week 10.
