With Tyreek Hill out for an unknown time period, Andy Reid will need Sammy Watkins and Mecole Hardman to step into the playmaking void. Watkins, for his part, told Albert Breer of SI.com that he doesn't think his role will change much.
"I think we got the same roles," he said. "The same particular roles. Same for me. I think we got the other guys to step up. We got Mecole Hardman in the second round. We got Demarcus Robinson. We got so many guys that can step up and play that position. I'm not really worried. Do we need 10? Do we need Tyreek? Yes, we do. I don't think I would've scored a couple touchdowns without him affecting the defense."
Hardman and Robinson are next up on the depth chart and it sounds like Watkins and the team don't expect to miss a beat. Hill didn't need surgery but is expected to miss a few weeks, so guys like Hardman and Robinson could find themselves in much bigger roles and will likely be hot fantasy pickups on the wire this week.
KC WR Mecole Hardman - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook
Week 6 vs. Houston Texans
After a bad Week 4, Mecole Hardman bounced back with a solid 4-79 off six targets in Week 5. Hardman's now had 60+ yards in three of the four games since Tyreek Hill's injury. It's not clear if Hill will return this week, so if he does, Hardman's ceiling will be somewhat limited. But if Hill remains out, and Sammy Watkins is also out, then Hardman could be a high reward flex play in a favorable matchup against the Texans. So keep an eye out for the Chiefs' injury report before making a decision on Hardman.
