The Training Room: Week 6 Injury Updates

Week 5 was a lighter week with regards to new injuries compared to others. However, it is rare to go through a full week of NFL football without someone sustaining an injury. Later this week we'll also cover some notable players that are possibly returning from injury that could provide a big boost for those who have been patient and kept them rostered on their team.

Player Position Team Injury Timetable For Recovery Potential Pickup Comments
Brandin Cooks WR Rams Concussion Cleared to return Week 6 Robert Woods Great sign to see Cooks available this week as his hit looked to be pretty bad in Week 5.
Cooper Kupp WR Rams Concussion Cleared to return Week 6 Robert Woods All systems go for both Kupp and Cooks.
T.Y. Hilton WR Colts Strained Hamstring RULED OUT FOR WEEK 6 Ryan Grant, Chester Rogers Hilton continues to recovery from a strained hamstring and doesn't look close to returning. Him practicing in any fashion next week would be a great sign that he's at least progressing.
Deshaun Watson QB Texans Bruised Chest/Lung Questionable for Week 6 Brandon Weeden There wasn't much doubt that Watson would play this week against the Bills, it'll just be interesting to see how much the Texans change the game plan to avoid having Watson take big hits.
Devonta Freeman RB Falcons Bone Bruise in Foot RULED OUT FOR WEEK 6 Tevin Coleman, Ito Smith Freeman just can't seem to avoid injury so far this year and it's no guarantee that he will be ready in Week 7 given that foot injuries and bone bruises are not a great combination. There has been some reports that Freeman is also dealing with a groin injury which just adds injury to insult.
Chris Thompson RB Redskins Rib/Knee Injuries NOT EXPECTED TO PLAY WEEK 6 Adrian Peterson, Kapri Bibbs Thompson is dealing with multiple injuries that will keep him sidelined for Week 6.
Randall Cobb WR Packers Strained Hamstring Game time decision for MNF Marquez Valdes-Scantling Cobb has been able to return to practice in a limited fashion but the hamstring injury is clearly still bugging him as to why he'll still be a game time decision for Monday. Even if he does suit up, there's a chance that he could be on a pitch count which doesn't bode well for feeling confident in starting him in your lineups. I'd wait another week in hopes he can get closer to 100%.
Dalvin Cook RB Vikings Strained Hamstring Questionable for Week 6 Latvius Murray Cook went from being a full participant to a limited one on Friday which is either a way for the Vikings to not give up too much information on him, or there's a possibility that Cook had some slight setback which is why they limited him on Friday. I think it's more likely that Cook plays this week, but he'll need to get through warm ups first and test out the hamstring to make sure he's ready to go. Keep a close eye on updates Sunday morning.
Erib Ebron TE Colts Multiple Injuries Questionable for Week 6 Erik Swoope Ebron was back at practice and practiced in full on Friday, which is encouraging considered he hadn't practiced all week up until that point. He is still listed as questionable heading into Sunday, but the expectation is that he'll be out there for the Colts.
Greg Olsen TE Panthers Broken Foot Questionable for Week 6 Ian Thomas Olsen will test his foot in warm ups to make sure it feels fine but the expectation is that he'll return this Sunday. It's hard to imagine the Panthers pushing him too hard in his first game back so I'd temper expectations initially.
Geronimo Allison WR Packers Strained Hamstring Game time decision for MNF Marquez Valdes-Scantling With Randall Cobb also a GTD, there isn't a ton of options if both of them don't play Monday. I'd look for another alternative that has a safer floor.
DeVante Parker WR Dolphins Strained Quadriceps Questionable for Week 6 Danny Amendola, Kenny Stills Parker was able to practice fully on Friday, which suggests that he's ready to return to the field this Sunday. With that being said, nothing has been cut and dry for Parker as he's dealt with a myriad of injuries that has kept him sidelined. Keep an eye on his status prior to kickoff to see if he's finally able to return.
Lamar Miller RB Texans Chest Contusion Expected to play Week 6 Alfred Blue Miller was able to practice fully after not playing at all in Week 5. Chest injuries can be tricky for due to the constant stress it takes especially as a running back so Alfred Blue could continue to see more usage while Miller works his way back to 100%.
O.J. Howard TE Buccanneers Sprained MCL Questionable for Week 6 Cameron Brate Howard was able to practice fully on Friday, which is a great sign considering where he was just two weeks ago. He'll test his knee out prior to the game but it sounds like he'll be ready to be out there on Sunday.
Pierre Garcon WR 49ers Dislocated Shoulder Questionable for MNF Dante Pettis, Trent Taylor Garcon did not practice at all this week but the 49ers feel confident that he'll be able to suit up on Monday against the Packers. It would be hard to trust Garcon considering the Monday night game and although he's expected to play, it would be risky to assume that.
Matt Breida RB 49ers High Ankle Sprain Questionable for MNF Alfred Morris Breida was surprisingly able to practice on a limited basis on Saturday and is questionable for Monday night. It is kind of surprising considering they were stating that his ankle sprain was a high ankle sprain, but his recovery must've gone well enough to potentialy play just a week after the injury. He is still a risky proposition given his current status. Even if he does play, I'm not sure I would expect him to be at 100% nor play his normal complement of snaps.
Paul Richardson WR Redskins Sprained Knee Questionable for Week 6 Josh Doctson Richardson is going to be a game time decision as per Ian Rapoport, so he and Josh Doctson look to be the only Redskins starting receivers that have a legitmate chance of playing. Keep an eye on the inactives and pregame to see if he's going to be active.
Rashard Higgins WR Browns Sprained MCL RULED OUT FOR WEEK 6, 2-4 weeks Antonio Callaway Higgins was diagnosed with a MCL sprain and will be out for Week 6. Reports are that they won't even re-evaluate Higgins until two weeks so his Week 7 availability is in question as well.
Jamison Crowder WR Redskins Sprained Ankle RULED OUT FOR WEEK 6 Josh Doctson Crowder will sit this game out in hopes of getting that ankle healthier. The fact that he didn't practice at all this week makes his availability for Week 7 up in the air as well.
Tyler Kroft TE Bengals Sprained Foot RULED OUT FOR WEEK 6 C.J. Uzomah Kroft will sit out Week 6 in hopes of getting his foot right to be able to return sooner than later. Foot injuries are difficult to gauge so make sure you keep an eye on his status as we head into next week.
Kerryon Johnson RB Lions Sprained Ankle Week to Week LeGarrette Blount With Johnson on a bye, he'll have another week to get his ankle healthy. Hopefully he'll be able to stay healthy and provide a boost for the Lions backfield.
