Week 10 Start/Sit Candidates: Quarterbacks

Wondering whom to start and sit at quarterback this week? Below are two top-notch start and two sit options at the quarterback position for Week 10 of the 2022 NFL season.

More Start/Sits: RB | WR | TE

Week 9 Review – half-PPR scoring

  • QB Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) vs. Las Vegas Raiders – 16.70 fantasy points (QB12)
  • QB Justin Fields (Chicago Bears) vs. Miami Dolphins – 42.72 fantasy points (QB1)

Sits

  • QB Matthew Stafford (Los Angeles Rams) @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers – 10.50 fantasy points (QB22)

Quarterback – Starts

Daniel Jones (New York Giants) vs. Houston Texans

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is scoring 16.28 fantasy points per game, 12th most at the position, thanks in large part to Jones’ frequent run-game utilization. The fourth-year quarterback is averaging just 174.9 passing yards per game, frequently opting to tuck and run the moment he spots an opening. Jones’ 3.9 scrambles per game are the second-highest in the league among NFL quarterbacks with at least 100 dropbacks, per 4for4’s NFL Player Stats Explorer. Jones is average 7.5 yards per scramble.

New York currently sits as -6.5-point home favorites versus the Houston Texans on BetMGM this week. Game script should keep the scramble-happy quarterback moving well into the fourth quarter. Three-of-eight quarterbacks to face Houston have tallied 40 rushing yards or more.

Houston has conjured a middling defensive reputation, allowing 217.5 passing yards per game (14th most) and a 10.1% explosive pass plays allowed rate (fourth highest). Their 19.7% quarterback pressure rate is 19th in the NFL.

Trevor Lawrence (Jacksonville Jaguars) @ Kansas City Chiefs

The Jacksonville Jaguars own a moderate 20.5-point implied team total vs. the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 10’s highest-totaled game at BetMGM (50.5-point over/under).

Kansas City has allowed four-of-eight opposing quarterbacks to clear 300 passing yards, helping the position average 19.8 fantasy points per game, fifth most in the league, per 4for4’s Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed. Their 2.8 touchdowns allowed per game are the 12th most in the NFL.

Lawrence has helpfully added 25.0 rushing yards per game since Week 5.

Quarterback – Sits

Russell Wilson (Denver Broncos) @ Tennessee Titans

The Denver Broncos are coming off a Week 9 bye worse than they were beforehand, having lost starting center Lloyd Cushenberry to injured reserve (groin) on Tuesday of this week. Denver’s saloon-door offensive line was already undermanned with starting left tackle Garett Bolles also on injured reserve (broken leg).

Prior to the Cushenberry loss, Denver had cobbled together the eighth-most pass-rush-friendly offensive line, allowing a 23.9% quarterback pressure rate. Tennessee welcomes Wilson to town with a top-12 20.9% quarterback pressure rate and just 16.5 points allowed per game, the second-fewest in the NFL.

Sam Ehlinger (Indianapolis Colts) @ Las Vegas Raiders

Quarterbacks who add a reliable ground-game component to their game are typically high-value assets in fantasy football but not even a 25.5 rushing-yards per-game average can keep Jim Irsay’s favorite Indianapolis Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger relevant as a fantasy starter.

As discussed in this week’s Fantasy Football Defense Steaming Week 10: A Giant Mismatch article, Indianapolis’ owner Irsay has meddled to the fullest extent, swapping out accomplished head coach Frank Reich for lackluster pundit and former player Jeff Saturday. Saturday is set to slam running back Deon Jackson up against the backs of his porous offensive line all day long.

BetMGM implies Indianapolis’ team total is a lowly 18.0 points.

Ehlinger will have minimal opportunities, playing behind his bottom-six (23.9% quarterback pressure rate allowed) offensive line and his bottom-three on-target rate (30.8%) leaves nearly everything to be desired.
