John Wolford spent a lot of time with the first-team offense throughout training camp while Stafford dealt with his ongoing elbow injury, and that could come in handy in Week 10 if he were to get the start. The offense hasn't been too great with Stafford at the helm, so a positive matchup with the Cardinals' defense wouldn't be all too shabby for Wolford's fantasy implications. He could be a 2QB-league option if a manager were desperate for a Stafford replacement.

Sean McVay said that Matthew Stafford went into the concussion protocol today.

Rodrigue went on to tweet that McVay said it is under the team's understanding that this happened in the game, but that team discovered symptoms when following up standard checks with Stafford earlier this week. Stafford only entered protocol Wednesday, per McVay, so his status for Week 10 is in question. If he can't go, Wolford would be under center and would, of course, be a downgrade for anyone involved in the passing game.

McVay also lumped Cam Akers and Darrell Henderson together when answering a random question yesterday about players John Wolford has to work with.

Point is, he's lately not mentioning one without the other. Feels like he sees them as a duo.

McVay barely mentioned Akers, and when he did he lumped in Darrell Henderson with him ("Feel really good about those guys"), according to other tweets. But like we said in Akers' profile, in his last 10 games, including the playoffs, Akers averaged 20.5 touches per game, and cleared 18 touches in seven of those 10 games. It’s pretty clear that the Rams want Akers to be their bell cow.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford slammed his surgically repaired right thumb into a defender’s helmet during a throw Monday, ending his day early and leaving the Rams’ sideline to hold its collective breath.

The Rams had no substantive update on Stafford’s status after practice, but Rams coach Sean McVay said he was hopeful “everything will be OK there.”

“We’ll see,” McVay said. “He’s so tough as it is. Look at what he played through all last year to get the thumb cleaned up. He’s a tough guy. We’ll see what they say and take it one day at a time.”

We first reported this story Monday night and it sounded like there wasn't too much concern. But it's the same thumb Stafford had surgery to repair a partially torn ligament in early March, shortly after the Rams acquired him from the Detroit Lions. We'll continue to update. Wolford took the rest of the first team snaps but Stafford did walk off the field gripping his helmet with his right hand.

Cooper Kupp is dealing with bursitis, which is inflammation or irritation of the sac near the knee joint. If Kupp can't go this week against Green Bay, Van Jefferson and Josh Reynolds should see an uptick in usage.

LA now plans to sign Blake Bortles off Denver’s practice squad.

Wolford is expected to start on Sunday vs. Arizona and Bortles will be the backup, according to Schefter's tweet. Jared Goff is out for Week 17 after having thumb surgery. The Rams QB situation looks like one to stay away from in Week 17.

The Rams officially announced Jared Goff underwent surgery for his broken thumb and that John Wolford will start against the Cardinals.

Schefter also reports the Rams will sign Blake Bortles off the Broncos’ practice squad to return to the Rams as the backup to Wolford. Wolford showed a pretty decent arm while in the AAF, throwing for over 1,600 yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions in eight games for the Arizona Hotshots under head coach Rick Neuheisel. Goff could return in the Wild Card Playoff, should the Rams get in.

Rams quarterback Jared Goff remained in Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks after breaking and dislocating his right thumb, but there’s a question about whether he’ll be able to play against the Cardinals in Week 17.

Surgery reportedly won’t be an obstacle to getting on the field. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Goff will be able to hold off on any operation until after the season.

Rapoport adds that more tests are coming on Goff’s thumb on Monday and that the quarterback is “adamant” about trying to play this week. Wolford, who has never appeared in an NFL game, would be next in line on the depth chart, the story said.
