Panthers won't trade Steve Smith

The Panthers won't be trading Steve L Smith. He met with GM Marty Hurney last night and will be reporting to camp tomorrow.

"For me I'm always going to be a Panther," Smith said Thursday from Charlotte. "They took a shot on me when I was coming from nowhere and now I'm going into my 11th year in the league. This will be where I retire, whether that's five years from now or one year from now."

Fantasy Impact:

Smith has been popular trade rumor fodder for the last few months, but it never really made sense that the Panthers would trade away their only proven receiver as they try to usher in the Cam Newton era. Smith is a sleeper as Carolina's WR1, but it's hard to get real excited about his prospects with a rookie QB throwing to him.
