The 49ers also have been pleasantly surprised by Trey Sermon’s route-running and pass-catching ability, which he got to display early in his college career at Oklahoma but not as much last season at Ohio State. He’s shown unexpected wiggle to shake free of the 49ers’ linebackers in one-on-one drills.

Fantasy Impact:

The story made an interesting point, saying Sermon has already won over position coach Bobby Turner. And something to keep in mind is it’s Turner, the most veteran member of Kyle Shanahan’s staff, who determines the running back pecking order and the workload for each tailback during a game. The story did say Sermon is currently the team's RB2 behind Mostert.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. Mostert will miss the remainder of the season. Wilson is the most logical replacement, though Kyle Shanahan could always change things up since he also has Tevin Coleman and Jerick McKinnon at his disposal. Over the past four games, Wilson has 49 touches, while McKinnon has seven and Coleman has five, so he seems to be clearly ahead. He may have injured his ankle against the Cowboys, but he says that he’s fine. Owners will want to monitor his practice activity this week to be sure. The Cardinals have given up an average of 122 total yards (4.44 YPC) and 1.20 touchdowns on 23.0 touches to opposing backfields over the last five games.

The 49ers are shutting down running back Raheem Mostert and receiver Deebo Samuel for the season, coach Kyle Shanahan announced Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact:

We just posted a story about Mostert, but the Samuel news isn't really a surprise either. He is dealing with a hamstring injury and was going to miss time. Samuel played seven games, gaining 417 yards and scoring one touchdown on 41 touches.

The 49ers likely will start Wilson against the Cardinals, after Shanahan said Wilson emerged healthy enough last game despite ankle and hamstring concerns, the story said. Coleman and McKinnon are available in relief. Austin Walter is eligible to come off COVID-19 reserve by kickoff but Shanahan doubts his availability.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert is questionable to return to Sunday’s game against Dallas with an ankle injury.

Fantasy Impact:

Mostert came up limping after a short carry in the third quarter and was seen grabbbing his lower leg and ankle on the bench. Jeff Wilson Jr. has been taking more carries as a result. Mostert was at 14 carries for 68 yards.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) took full practice reps on Friday after being limited earlier in the week. He was removed from the injury report which indicates that he's (somehow) nearing full health. Pencil him in as a low-end RB2 with Jeff Wilson as a high-upside RB3/flex against the Cowboys.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert does not carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.

Fantasy Impact:

This is the same ankle that has given Mostert trouble for weeks. If you can play another back ahead of Mostert, try. If not, he falls into the RB3/Flex range assuming he is used.

His MRI must have come back negative because the team is suddenly optimistic that he can play against the Cowboys. It's a great matchup, but there's no telling how Kyle Shanahan will divvy up the carries if Mostert isn't 100%. Jeff Wilson's Sneaky Start status hangs in the balance.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert is having further imaging done on his ankle, according to Kyle Shanahan.

Wagoner's tweet went on to say Shanahan said team will know more about Wilson's ankle issue on Wednesday. For Mostert owners, it doesn't seem like a good sign as far as his status goes for Week 15. If Mostert can't go, Wilson could see more work in what has been a split the last few weeks. McKinnon, who hasn't seen much action at all, could be involved. What's interesting is it's a juicy matchup against the Cowboys who have often been gashed against the run.

49ers RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) and Jeff Wilson will be activated from injured reserve but are still questionable for Week 12. If Mostert is able to play, he should be the lead back for the 49ers. The game is late on Sunday so hopefully we have more clarity by Sunday morning. Tevin Coleman remains out, so some combination of Jerick McKinnon, JaMycal Hasty, Mostert and Wilson will play running back for the 49ers this week.
