Chargers expecting Ryan Mathews' production to go "way up"

Chargers RB Ryan Mathews is primed for a big season.

“I personally think he’s ready to take that next step,” said HC Norv Turner, who added he thinks Mathews has what it takes to someday lead the league in rushing. “That means, to me, the production goes way up, and he’s more of the guy that is on the field most of the time. I think he’s grown a lot in terms of understanding his responsibility when the ball is in his hand.”

Fantasy Impact: 

Mathews split time with Mike Tolbert last season, and now that Tolbert is in Carolina, there is very little standing between Mathews and a big season. His main issue has been staying healthy -- missing six games in the last two seasons -- but he has reportedly packed on the muscle this offseason and may be better prepared to handle a big workload.
