Receiver Martavis Bryant is signing a one-year deal with the Oakland Raiders, a source told ESPN's Dan Graziano.

The Raiders previously released Bryant on roster cutdown day because they were concerned about a possible league-imposed suspension and needed the roster spot.

A source told Graziano that Bryant and the Raiders discussed him potentially re-signing at the time of his release, and that he is still in "wait and see mode" with regard to a potential suspension.

ESPN reported earlier this month that Bryant violated the league's drug policy at some point during the offseason, and the NFL was reviewing the matter.

It is abundantly clear that the former fantasy force in Pittsburgh should not be drafted in your leagues this season. The Raiders dealt the No. 79 overall selection for Bryant just a few months ago. Solid front office work there.

It doesn't look like Whalen is going to be ready for Week 1 against the Rams. Gehlken added Whalen could be a candidate for injury settlement. The Raiders just traded Ryan Switzer to the Steelers and Whalen was among those battling for the slot receiver job.

WR Justin Hunter is trying to become that deep threat for the Steelers, embracing a golden opportunity after they traded Martavis Bryant to the Oakland Raiders at the NFL Draft.

At 6-foot-4, Hunter is the type of tall target that Ben Roethlisberger loves. Hunter received an endorsement from the quarterback after the game, despite the miscommunication that cost them a second scoring play.

The issue with Hunter has been inconsistency. The story pointed out a great play Hunter made for a TD against the Titans, but also added there were two mistakes before that easily could have led to more big plays. Roethlisberger has shown confidence in Hunter which the receiver appreciates, the story said, and the hope is it leads to chemistry between the two during the season.

The condition has plagued Bryant for years, per Tafur.

The story went on to say coach Jon Gruden confirmed Monday that Bryant missed that day’s practice with “a headache.” Bryant made one catch for 18 yards on four targets in the Raiders’ preseason opener. He is on the second team behind Cooper and Nelson.

James Jones said on NFL Network that he talked to Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson, and Olson told him that Martavis Bryant has not picked up the playbook.

“I just had a chance to speak with Coach Olson and he said talent-wise, there’s probably nobody that can compete with [Bryant] talent-wise,” Jones said. “But they said he’s not picking up the playbook, and that’s the reason of a little frustration right now because they want to get him on the field but he’s not able to grasp the playbook yet.”

Oakland traded a third-round pick for Bryant during the NFL Draft, and it is imperative they get him on the field so as not to have wasted that asset. Jon Gruden's offense projects to be balanced, so there are not as many pass attempts to go around as one would like. Bryant is not on the fantasy radar right now.

There were rumors circulating back in June that a suspension was coming for the former Steeler, but nothing has come of it. You can expect Bryant to play in 3-WR sets for Oakland come Week 1.

Michael Gehlken reports that the Raiders "fear potential NFL discipline might be imminent" for Martavis Bryant. It is believed to be substance abuse related.

After missing all of 2016 for his second infraction of the substance-abuse policy, this would likely be another lengthy suspension for the mercurial wideout. It would be wise to avoid Bryant in fantasy drafts until we receive more information on his situation.
