The Training Room: Week 7 Injury Updates

Week six brought a lot of injuries to the wide receiver position as many of the top targets for their respective teams went out with an injury. We are officially a third of the way through the season where bye weeks are starting to play more of a factor so knowing which of your players might miss one week or multiple weeks becomes even more important at this point in the season. Let's take a look at this week's injuries and if they should be a cause for concern for fantasy owners.

Player Position Team Injury Timetable For Recovery Potential Pickup Comments
Amari Cooper WR Raiders Concussion Day to day Martavis Bryant Cooper took a helmet to helmet hit and was ruled out shortly thereafter. With the Raiders on a bye week, he should have plenty of time to get healthy.
Rob Gronkowski TE Patriots Back Injury RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Jacob Hollister, Dwayne Allen Gronkowski did not travel with the team and Adam Schefter just reported that Gronk has been ruled out for this week. Reports are expecting Gronk to play in Week 8, but we'll have to keep close eye on this situation.
T.Y. Hilton WR Colts Strained Hamstring Removed from injury report Chester Rogers, Ryan Grant Hilton has been practicing this week and the fact that he's removed from the final injury report means that he's a full go for the Colts. The Colts will welcome him back with open arms as their offensive weapons have been severely limited.
Melvin Gordon RB Chargers Strained Hamstring RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Austin Ekeler Gordon was feeling some discomfort in his hamstring in warm-ups and the Chargers did not want to force the issue in risk of making it worse and losing Gordon potentially for longer. He'll be week to week moving forward as hamstring injuries are tricky to try and project.
Dalvin Cook RB Vikings Strained Hamstring RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Latavius Murray Cook is having trouble getting healthy with that hamstring and it is concerning that it continues to linger. Straining your hamstring on the same leg that you had an ACL reconstruction on does not help matters and the strength in that leg does take some time to return, which could be complicating matters. He'll remain week to week for now, but hopefully we'll get some better
Calvin Ridley WR Falcons Sprained Ankle Limited practice Marvin Hall, Justin Hardy Ridley looks to have suffered a very mild high ankle sprain, so much to the point where he has a good chance to play on Monday night. Keep an eye on his status for Monday and have a backup plan just in case he doesn't feel right in warmups.
Isaiah Crowell RB Jets Sprained Ankle Limited practice Bilal Powell Crowell was able to get in a limited practice session on Friday, which is a good sign that he suits up for Week 7. The Jets have a touch matchup against the Vikings, but Crowell
Giovani Bernard RB Bengals Sprained MCL RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Joe Mixon, Mark Walton Bernard did not practice all week and will continue to recover from a sprained MCL. MCL sprains normally require a few weeks to fully recover so his status for Week 8 will remain up in the air as well.
Ryan Tannehill QB Dolphins Strained Shoulder RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Brock Osweiler Tannehill will now miss his second game due to pain in his throwing shoulder. It sounds like there is more to what's going on with Tannehill's shoulder and the fact that they ruled him out on a Wednesday sounds like he's not really close to returning.
Quincy Enunwa WR Jets Sprained Ankle RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Robby Anderson, Jermaine Kearse Enunwa suffered the ankle injury in the second quarter and did not return. He's scheduled to have an MRI on his ankle as he was unable to put much weight on his leg after the injury so we'll get a better idea of the severity after his test results come back.
Devonta Freeman RB Falcons Groin Surgery PUT ON IR Ito Smith, Tevin Coleman Freeman is eligible to return after eight weeks, but for fantasy purposes that means he'll be returning during the playoffs. He is a drop in redraft leagues at this point and it's a shame that those who spent a lot of high draft capital to get him are now struggling to find a replacement for him.
Mohamed Sanu WR Falcons Strained Hip Removed from injury report Marvin Hall, Justin Hardy Sanu was taken off the injury report indicating he is fully recovered from the hip issue he was dealing with.
Cooper Kupp WR Rams Sprained Knee RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Robert Woods Kupp was diagnosed with an MCL sprain and will miss at least one, if not two or three games. Stability and confidence in the knee become the most important factors when returning from an injury.
Chris Thompson RB Redskins Sprained Knee, Rib Injury NOT EXPECTED TO PLAY WEEK 7 Adrian Peterson, Kapri Bibbs Adam Schefter reports that Thompson is not expected to play in Week 7 although he did practice in limited fashion all week. It is unclear whether the ribs or the knee is the issue that is causing the delayed return, but the fact that he's practicing should signal that he's closer to returning.
Josh Allen QB Bills Elbow Injury RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7, at least 4 weeks Derek Anderson Allen was diagnosed with a partial tear in his UCL, which is the main ligament on the inner aspect of your elbow. That ligament gets significantly strained when throwing anything, so the Bills are going to put him on the shelf in hopes he can recover quickly to be with his team.
T.J. Yeldon RB Jaguars Sprained Knee/Foot Removed from injury report Jamaal Charles Yeldon was taken off the injury report which is a green light for him for Week 7. However, with the Jaguars trading for Carlos Hyde, his value might take a hit moving forward until Leonard Fournette returns.
Ryan Grant WR Colts Sprained Ankle RULED OUT FOR WEEK 7 Chester Rogers Grant continues to recover from an ankle injury he sustained in Week 6 but apparently wasn't close enough to return for this week. He'll remain week to week for a team that needs all the playmakers they can get currently.
