Draft note
by John Paulsen
Last year, Tannehill posted career highs in completion percentage (70.3%), touchdown percentage (7.7%) and yards per attempt (9.6) en route to a 9-4 record as the starter, including the postseason. He averaged 16.6 rushing yards and scored four rushing touchdowns in 13 starts. After taking over as the starter in Week 7, Tannehill was the No. 3 fantasy quarterback for the remainder of the season. Though he's likely to experience some regression, he looks like a very good value as the 20th quarterback off the board in early drafts.

TEN QB Ryan Tannehill - 2020 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
After taking over fulltime for Marcus Mariota in Week 7 last season, Ryan Tannehill finished with a 7-3 record, leading his team to within a game of the Super Bowl. On the year he played in 12 games, totaling over 2,700 passing yards and 22 TDs versus only six INTs. He remained a weapon with his legs too, rushing for 185 yards and four more scores. Tannehill threw for over 300 yards three times with multiple touchdown tosses in nine of the 10 games he started. During his career he has tossed for over 4,000 yards twice and posted a career-most 27 TDs in ’14.

Fantasy Downside
With the Titans in the lead for much of the three playoff games Tannehill became a game-manager, totaling just 369 yards through the air – although he did account for six TDs in those contests. The 32-year-old failed to reach 200 passing yards in four of his 10 regular season starts and was sacked 31 times in 11 of the outings in which he played at least a half. The Titans are a run-first offense, which limits the number of pass plays Tannehill receives.

Bottom Line
With the help of Derrick Henry keeping defenses honest last season, Tannehill completed 70 percent of his passes for 9.6 yards per attempt – both career highs. During his first four professional seasons he averaged 3,865 yards through the air and 23 total TDs. With one of the most explosive WRs in A.J. Brown, Tannehill’s numbers can skyrocket with just a few short passes. Heading into the ’20 season, Tannehill is a QB2 option, but has the potential to move into the QB1 territory based on his performance since becoming a starter with Tennessee.
