Mixon turned in a strong 2024 campaign, finishing as the fantasy RB13 despite a few missed games—he was RB5 on a per-game basis. Now heading into his age-29 season, he enters the danger zone where running backs often start to decline, and the Texans may be preparing for that possibility. Mixon has missed all offseason with an undisclosed foot injury and I’ve heard from a couple of sources that I trust that his 2025 season is in serious doubt. The team has been less apocalyptic about his recovery and continue to say that they hope to have him back early in the season. He’s on my “do not draft” list and I would only consider him very late in redraft formats where it’s easy to move on if it turns out that he doesn’t play this season.

Texans GM noncommittal about whether RB Joe Mixon plays in 2025

Texans general manager Nick Caserio was noncommittal about whether Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon will play in 2025.

Caserio was asked Wednesday morning if Mixon would suit up at all this season but did not provide any clarity on the status of the team's leading rusher from last season.

"We'll see. We'll take it one day at a time," Caserio said. "We'll evaluate those players after four weeks and see where they are in their progression and then make a determination."

Fantasy Impact:

Mixon has been undraftable for a while now, but even stashing him away seems to be a hard pill to swallow at this point. Chubb will hold the RB1 title for now, but he looked pretty rough upon returning from a major injury last season. Woody Marks is one of the best last-round picks you can make at the moment.

HOU RB Joe Mixon - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Joe Mixon had a decent day Sunday against the Chiefs, rushing for 57 yards on 14 attempts. Not bad considering how strong Kansas City's run defense is. Baltimore is pretty strong against the run themselves, so it will be another week of tough sledding for Mixon. Still, as the clear lead back in Houston, there is still RB2 appeal for Mixon. This is still a back that has rushed for over 100 yards seven times in the 12 games he has played in.
