Quarterback By Committee - Rest of Season

M. Cassel

We've reached the halfway point of the fantasy season so it's a good time for fantasy owners to revisit Quarterback By Committee (QBBC) and see if there's any way to improve production out of the QB position down the stretch. If you have Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Michael Vick, Cam Newton or Matthew Stafford, this article is not for you, as you'll be starting those guys the rest of the way.

However, if you're streaming QBs or are currently using your own committee, read on.
Using our Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points Allowed and SOS Hot Spots, I calculated the 210 possible combinations of Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jay Cutler, Andy Dalton, Colt McCoy, Tony Romo, Tim Tebow, Matt Schaub, Matt Cassel, Christian Ponder, Eli Manning, Mark Sanchez, Carson Palmer, Ben Roethlisberger, Philip Rivers, Tarvaris Jackson, Alex Smith, Sam Bradford, Josh Freeman and Matt Hasselbeck. (I'm assuming that you're not going to want to use Kevin Kolb, Curtis Painter, Blaine Gabbert, Matt Moore or John Beck the rest of the way.)
Below is a table with the top 10 combinations. Keep in mind that this is simply strength of schedule -- not projected fantasy points scored -- so the quality of the QB does not come into play. In other words, Ben Roethlisberger is a lot better than Alex Smith, so you wouldn't want to cut Big Ben to pick up Smith (under ANY circumstances).

QBBC T10

So from a pure schedule standpoint, you can't do any better than Jay Cutler and Matt Cassel. Cassel has a great upcoming schedule (MIA, DEN, NE) and then the duo closes with DEN (Cutler), GB (Cassel) and GB (Cutler). Cassel checks in as part of six of the top 10 schedules.
Ryan Fitzpatrick is part of four of the top 10 schedules thanks in large part to his outstanding matchups during Weeks 15 & 16 (MIA & DEN).
Carson Palmer is a risky pickup, but with matchups against DEN, MIA and GB down the stretch, he could be useful as part of a committee.
If you're interested in a particular combination, below is the complete table with all 210 committees. The totals for the top 20% are indicated in green while the bottom 20% is shown in red. It's sorted by QB1 and then QB2, so if you're looking for the combination of Mark Sanchez and Matt Hasselbeck, you'd look for NYJ first since it comes before TEN alphabetically.
