While Michael Gallup still isn't expected to suit up on Sunday for the Buccaneers facing off against his Cowboys, this is a step in the right direction.

Rookie Jalen Tolbert has an opportunity to work as the team's WR2, and third passing-game option behind CeeDee Lamb and TE Dalton Schultz. Owner Jerry Jones said last week that he believes Gallup will be ready to go sometime in the first three weeks of the season.

Gallup avoided the PUP list which means the team sees him coming back before Week 4. Owner Jerry Jones said if Week 1 was the Super Bowl, Gallup would probably be able to play. As a result, many speculate he's close to returning, but most reports have him out for Week 1, possibly Week 2 as well. When he's back, he'll be the WR2 behind Lamb, and for now Tolbert and Brown will pick up the slack.

Washington can return for Week 5 and other reports say he should at least be close at that point. Washington should battle for WR3 snaps, but by Week 5 could also be behind Tolbert and/or Brown.

As the tweet said, we know Gallup isn't going to play Week 1. Gallup isn't on the PUP list so it looks like he's at least going to be ready before Week 5 of the season. But, if you want to believe Jones, it sounds like he could be a lot closer to getting back.

By being on 53-man roster next Tuesday, Cowboys WR Michael Gallup will be able to play sometime during season’s first four games.

As Gehlken went on to say, this doesn’t mean he will be ready Week 1. In fact, he added Gallup has even said he won’t be ready. But, he’ll be available to Dallas before Week 5, Gehlken added. Encouraging news for Gallup and the Cowboys offense.

The Cowboys will be without WR James Washington for 6-10 weeks because of a fractured right foot suffered Monday, according to multiple sources. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday in Dallas.

With Gallup recovering from an ACL injury, it looks like the rookie Tolbert and Brown are next up on the suddenly thin depth chart, behind Lamb.

It's feared that veteran wide receiver James Washington may have suffered a Jones fracture.

Immediate reports are ranging from a Jones fracture to a right turf toe. Regardless, if Washington is forced to miss time to begin the year, it will open the door for rookie Jalen Tolbert to operate as the WR3 behind CeeDee Lamb and Michael Gallup, when the latter returns later this Fall.

Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup tore his ACL in January, so it’s no surprise that he isn’t ready to hit the practice field during the first week of training camp.

Gallup was placed on the physically unable to perform list Wednesday.

There’s no timetable for Gallup to get on the practice field, but he can be activated at any point during camp. If Gallup is not activated from the PUP list before the cut to 53 players, he will have to miss the opening weeks of the regular season before he can return to practice and/or be added to the active roster, the story went on to say.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters when asked about WR Michael Gallup's ACL recovery that he could be a "question mark" Week 1, "and I see a conversation that says conservatively, you would like to have a couple more games to get him out there.”

It appears that Gallup's recovery is on par with expectations if he manages to get into games towards the end of the first month of the 2022 season. His WR2 role with the Cowboys is secure as long as he does not have a setback.

Great for Gallup to get a long-term deal despite an ACL tear. He gets some financial security, Dallas signs him slightly cheaper, and Dak Prescott has two of his top three targets at wideout back.
