Jaguars HC Doug Pederson told reporters that RB Travis Etienne is expected to be ready for early offseason programs, while RB James Robinson is not expected to be ready until training camp.

Pederson also stated that Robinson can be a three-down back. Etienne's role is undetermined as Pederson smiled and said "we'll see," according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.

Who knows what Pederson has planned for Etienne, but it sounds like a jack-of-all-trades role. It is also promising for Robinson backers to see a new regime believe in his talents as a workhorse back.

With Etienne likely out for the year, the Jacksonville backfield should be evaluated with Robinson as the lead back and Carlos Hyde as a solid No. 2 with a significant backup role. Robinson was a bellcow back last season, which led to a top 10 finish, but he is unlikely to see 20+ touches per game with Hyde around. Still, Robinson should see 16-19 touches per game in a lead back role and that should include 3-4 catches per game, since he'll have to take over part of Etienne's role as a pass-catcher. He should be added to a solid group of fantasy RB2s that are going in the 3rd-4th rounds.

Logic would suggest that Urban Meyer wouldn’t pop the hood on Jacksonville’s full scheme in preseason games against the Browns, Saints and Cowboys. But it’s not as if the opponents are emptying the playbook, either, and for the second consecutive game, it was painful to watch the first offense the Jaguars put on the field. The tempo was sluggish.

The story said Meyer's frustration maybe stems from not having better players than everyone else, like he's used to. The story added Lawrence still held the ball too long at times, the protection was faulty and the receivers couldn’t get separation. To make matters worse, first-round tailback Etienne left the game with a foot injury. He was in a boot Monday night, and ESPN reported Tuesday that Etienne is out indefinitely with a foot sprain. Etienne will have further tests today, source said to Rapoport. Rapoport went on to say X-Rays were negative so the belief is it’s just a sprain but the exams Tuesday will determine how long he’s out. Robinson should at least get a huge short-term boost here and it's worth monitoring to see of Etienne's injury is the type that's going to keep him out several weeks.
