Jets running back Michael Carter left Sunday’s win over the Bears with an ankle injury, but the team isn’t ruling him out of their Week 13 trip to Minnesota at this point.

Head coach Robert Saleh said at his Monday press conference that Carter suffered a low ankle sprain. He added that the team sees him as day-to-day with a chance to play against the Vikings.

Carter has been the lead back for the Jets since Breece Hall tore his ACL, but the team’s other options had a good showing against the Bears. Rookie Knight ran for 69 yards and caught three passes for 34 yards while Johnson ran for a 32-yard touchdown. Robinson was inactive for that game, but could find his way back into the mix if Carter isn’t able to go this weekend, the story said. This could end up being a muddy situation fantasy-wise, especially if Carter plays but isn't 100 %. Hopefully we can learn more leading up to the game.

Ty Johnson and Zonovan Knight split the load in a blowout win over the Bears, but they may have a third back in the rotation if Carter were to miss the entire game. It's too early in the week to make a broad call on the backfield but either back could make an interesting flier if we hear bad news about Carter's ankle later this week.

The Jets feel Robinson will make for a nice one-two punch with Carter. Robinson is expected to practice today with the Jets and is considered a one-cut runner who gets downhill. It would make sense for Robinson to eventually get the early down work with Carter a change of pace and third down back. Robinson's role had decreased recently on the Jags but he should eventually see a boost once up to par with the Jets.

The Jets are making a big trade, acquiring Jaguars RB James Robinson to help replaced injured RB Breece Hall. Draft pick compensation is going back to the Jags.

Michael Carter's 12-hour reign as the Jets' RB1 is over, as the team makes a move that will clear the way for Travis Etienne to be the workhorse number one back in Jacksonville. Robinson and Carter will split time in New York while Etienne has nothing but JaMycal Hasty and Snoop Conner to keep away for his touch share. Wheels up for ETN.

A brutal blow to the Jets and a great rookie season from Breece Hall. Michael Carter would presumably move into a more workhorse role, with Ty Johnson rotating more in the passing and running game.

Reportedly nothing is serious, so it's good news for owners of Hall, who finally saw him take over the RB1 spot in the Jets backfield. Hall ran for for a line of 17-66-1 to Carter's 9-15-0. Both backs added two catches in the game as well. It was only a matter of time before he'd get the lead role and it looks like that happened last week.

The article mentions there was a sense of urgency to Saleh's voice when discussing rookies Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson. "We're young at the skill spots, we're young at critical positions, and we have to grow up quick."

Hall had a fumble and a dropped pass across his 16 opportunities (six carries, ten targets) and ceded a majority of work to sophomore Michael Carter, 38 snaps to 50 snaps. The rookie has the entire season to look forward to so there's no reason to panic from a fantasy perspective, but the backfield is sure to be led by Carter in the short term.

Jets are releasing RB Tevin Coleman, per sources.

While Hall is expected to be the team's RB1, and Carter a change of pace and third down back, we had Coleman listed as the team's RB3, which is at least notable in deeper leagues. That role could go to Johnson or Perine going forward. It could be something to watch if you're fantasy-invested in the Jets running game.

During a Twitter Q&A, Joe Caporoso of Turn on the Jets believes the split in carries between running backs Breece Hall and Michael Carter will start out 50/50 but “quickly moves to 65/35 Hall”.

Carter is still the RB1 for the Jets, for now, but these early depth charts also typically have rookies down on the list as they work their way up. Hall eventually should take over as the lead back for the Jets, as the team did invest a second round pick in him, so they obviously want to use him. Hall is the still the first Jet being taken in drafts over at Underdog and being drafted as a top 20 running back. A 65/35 split would absolutely give him RB2 potential with some weekly RB1 upside.

Cimini noted Carter had a good day catching and running the ball on Wednesday. This is possibly heading more toward a split. Hall is ranked 19th on our RB list with Carter way down in the 40s. If this does turn into a split workload, Carter could hold the edge in the passing game so this is a situation to keep an eye on.
