Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams went for tests after coming down hard on his right shoulder during Sunday’s practice and he’s reportedly set to miss time as a result of the injury.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Williams is considered week-to-week after being evaluated by doctors and diagnosed as a sprain. It’s unclear at this point if he’ll be cleared in time to face the Bengals in Cincinnati in Week 1.

Williams posted career bests with 49 catches and 1,001 yards during the 2019 season. He's expected to start opposite Allen with the real battle for the team's WR3 role. Hill has the edge, according to reports from Sunday, but the team is looking for more speed at that position, which more favors Jennings and Reed.

Rookie wide receiver K.J. Hill had the best Week 1 of training camp among wide receivers not named Keenan Allen or Mike Williams. Hill was open often and rarely had an incomplete target.

The Chargers are seeking speed at their WR3 spot, but Hill doesn't necessarily fit the bill. Jalen Guyton’s blazing speed gave him first crack for the No. 3 role. He received most of the first-team reps, but struggled to find chemistry with quarterback Tyrod Taylor. The results weren’t good when Taylor targeted him, the story said. The piece added with Hill stepping up, it may force the Chargers hand. Reed and Jennings are also candidates.

According to The Athletic, Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Mike Williams has spent extra time with teammate Keenan Allen in an attempt to improve his route running skills.

Mike Williams is already a threat downfield and in the red zone, but if he can improve his ability to separate thanks to tutelage from one of the best route runners in the game, he should take full advantage of the opportunity afforded to him. Mike Williams has shown some glimpses of the upside that made him the seventh overall pick back in the 2017 NFL Draft, but has yet to truly put it altogether to become the dominant receiver many had envisioned. He managed to crack the 1,000 receiving yard barrier in 2019, but saw his touchdown count drop from 10 in 2018, to just two scores. Our 41st ranked receiver for the 2020 season, Mike Williams could exceed expectations if he can apply what he is learning in live game action.

Chargers WR Keenan Allen is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Bears with a hamstring injury.

Allen did not practice Thursday or Friday so he will definitely be a player to keep a very close eye on when inactives are announced. The Chargers play in the early window Sunday so you’ll be able to reset your lineups if Allen is ruled out by Sunday morning. Mike Williams will see a nice boost if Allen is unavailable and perhaps will see an uptick even if Allen plays, as he’d likely be limited anyway if he plays.

The Chargers star receiver, Keenan Allen, was unable to practice on Thursday due to a hamstring injury. A mid-week injury in which a player can't practice is concerning for his availability.

If Keenan Allen can't go, Austin Ekeler, Hunter Henry and Mike Williams get bumps in usage, making all three good starts, even against a tough defense.
