Week 6 Fantasy Start/Sit Candidates: Tight Ends

Wondering who to start and sit at quarterback this week? Below are two top-notch start and two sit options at the quarterback position for Week 6 of the 2022 NFL season.

More Start/Sits: QB | RB | WR

Tight Ends – Starts

TE Taysom Hill (New Orleans Saints) vs. Cincinnati Bengals

New Orleans Saints tight end Taysom Hill offers distinct, dynamic fantasy-scoring potential like no other at the position.

Hill missed Week 3 with a ribs injury but in the four games he has played, Hill put up surreal numbers. As a rusher, Hill is averaging 5.2 carries, 57 rushing yards, and one rushing touchdown per game. Inside the opponent’s five-yard line, Hill boasts a 20.0% share of the team’s carries—20.0% better than that of No. 1 running back Alvin Kamara (when Hill has been active). As a receiver, Hill is running routes on 9.7% of dropbacks, earning a 7.0% target per route run rate. His lone 2022 pass attempt was completed for a 22-yard touchdown.

Hill’s bizarre usage brings inherent uncertainty but his 58.4 half-PPR points scored have him sitting as the TE3 overall. Hill is an every-week TE1 until further notice.

Noah Fant (Seattle Seahawks) vs. Arizona Cardinals

Seattle Seahawks tight end Noah Fant is splitting time closely with dusty veteran Will Dissly but Fant’s 51.4% route participation rate edges Dissly’s 44.5% by a small margin, making him the smarter play overall in Week 6. The Arizona Cardinals are allowing 15.9 half-PPR points per week to opposing tight ends, second most behind Seattle’s unholy 22.7. Their 7.2 tight end receptions per game allowed top the charts and their 87.2 tight end receiving yards per game are second-most in the NFL. Arizona’s 0.6 tight end receiving touchdowns per game have them tied for the league’s fifth-most tight-end friendly rate as well.

Fant not only leads the Seattle tight ends in route participation rate, but his 65.6% share of the team’s red zone snaps is also over 10.0% greater than that of Dissly’s. Fant also has a 0.0% drop rate on the year.

Tight End – Sits

Hayden Hurst (Cincinnati Bengals) @ New Orleans Saints

Tight end Hayden Hurst has become a regular contributor in the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense, having earned a 16.7% target share over the last two weeks, third only to Ja’Marr Chase (27.3%) and Tee Higgins (28.1%). Starting Hurst this week would be understandable, as he has scored in back-to-back contests, but Week 6 brings a date with the New Orleans Saints and their roaming coverage linebackers. On the year, New Orleans is allowing just 5.2 half-PPR points per game to the position, the fourth fewest in the NFL. With so many pass-catching options at his disposal, quarterback Joe Burrow does not need to force the ball to a tertiary option in a subpar matchup.

Cole Kmet (Chicago Bears) vs. Washington Commanders

Drafted to be a fantasy football TE1 in many leagues, Chicago Bears tight end Cole Kmet is once again an unreliable starting option this week against the Washington Football Team. Chicago vs. Washington opened with a 38.0-point over/under at MGM Grand this week, the single lowest game total on the Week 6 slate. Chicago’s 18.5 implied point total further incentivizes a Kmet-fantasy start, as Chicago’s 2.2 field goals per game is tied for a top-three rate and their 0.7 touchdowns-to-field goals rate is also tied for the third worst rate in the NFL.

The Washington Commanders have locked down opposing tight ends this year, limiting the position to just 6.2 half-PPR points per game, the ninth fewest in 2022.
