Draft note
by John Paulsen
Freiermuth finished with 60-497-7 on 79 targets in 16 games as a rookie. It was the fifth-most fantasy points by a rookie tight end since the 2000 season. He split time with Eric Ebron, who is no longer in Pittsburgh. In the eight games that Ebron was sidelined, Freiermuth averaged 4.1 catches for 37 yards and 0.63 touchdowns. That pace over a full 16- or 17- game season would have made him the top rookie tight end since 2000. Without Ebron, his targets increased from 4.5 to 5.4 and his routes run increased from 20.8 per game to 25.8 per game. He’s going off the board as a low-end TE1 and that’s fair given his situation in Pittsburgh.

PIT TE Pat Freiermuth - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
It was a solid rookie season for Pat Freiermuth who caught 60 passes for 497 yards and an impressive 7 touchdowns. The touchdown total ranked him 6th in the NFL for tight ends. Freiermuth showed to be a good route runner and used his size to battle through traffic. His hands were reliable and his blocking was above average. Expect him to be on the field a lot for the Steelers.

2022 Fantasy Downside
The Steelers haven't really focused on their tight ends in recent years. We also don't know who the starting quarterback will be which means we don't how much Freiermuth will be a target with the new signal caller.

2022 Bottom Line
Freiermuth really was impressive last season and although he isn't quite in the top tier of tight ends just yet, he definitely can be considered a low-end TE1. In fact, he legitimately is a sleeper and if you can grab him 10th or 11th round, you are probably getting a steal. 60 catches and 600 yards is within reach for the second-year player and 7 touchdowns is likely again.
