Draft note
by John Paulsen
Thielen missed several games in 2019 with a hamstring injury suffered in Week 7. Prior to that, he had averaged 4.3 catches for 61 yards and 0.83 touchdowns on 6.3 targets, which was solid usage but a far cry from his volume in 2018 (7.1-86-0.56 on 9.6 targets per game). Kevin Stefanski had taken over late in 2018 and made the Vikings very run-heavy at HC Mike Zimmer’s request. Through six weeks in 2019, he was the No. 8 fantasy receiver, thanks in large part to the five touchdowns in six games. He was injured in Week 7, and only appeared in four more games, catching all of three passes for 27 yards. Stefanski is out and Stefon Diggs was traded to Buffalo, so Thielen should be the clear No. 1 target in the Minnesota offense under new OC Gary Kubiak. He’s a solid value in the fourth round of fantasy drafts, especially in PPR formats since he has 100-catch upside.

MIN WR Adam Thielen - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Detroit

Thielen had a strong game last week against the New Orleans Saints as he caught 8-of-9 targets for 97 yards and one touchdown. It was the rookie Justin Jefferson who was targeted by Marshon Lattimore all game, which resulted in Thielen cooking the rest of the Saints secondary. He was impressive as usual and even had a highlight TD grab towards the end of the game.

Thielen will take on the Detroit Lions this week who rank 30th in aFPA to WRs this season. Last time out against the Lions, Thielen only caught two balls for 38 yards, but we expect much more from him this week. With Dalvin Cook set to miss this game, Minnesota will look to throw more. Thielen is a solid WR1 this week.
