It was a down week for the quarterback position in general, but Dak Prescott emerged as the top scoring option on the week with 31.98 DK points. Getting him at an infinitesimal rostership percentage was the icing on the cake. Saquon Barkley got it done as the RB2 on the week behind only Cam Akers and his unpredictable three-touchdown explosion. Tee Higgins and CeeDee Lamb finished as the WR4 and WR1 overall, respectively, giving the $100k winner two of the best wide receiver plays of the week at relatively low rostership, which is key to winning these big tournaments. I’ve been recommending not playing a tight end other than Travis Kelce in contests where they aren’t required, but Hockenson was one of the difference makers at the position in Week 16 with 38.9 DK points, good for TE1 on the week with only 4.5% of the field putting him in a lineup.

Starting from the top of our recommendations from last week, Justin Herbert was a massive bust in week 16. He single-handedly tanked lineups with his six-and-a-half-point QB30 finish. Soul crushing. Derrick Henry was good but not great, scoring 18.6 DK points and finishing as the ninth-best running back play on the week. Our wide receiver picks were a mixed bag, with Justin Jefferson crushing it once again as the WR2 overall in week 16 with 34.3 DK points. Davante Adams, on the other hand, was absolutely brutal for the second straight week. If you thought his 6.8 DK points in Week 15 was rough, he followed it up with 3.5 in Week 16. His 40.7-point Week 13 outburst seems like an eternity ago. Travis Kelce wasn’t bad as the TE6 on the week, but he didn’t come close to TJ Hockenson’s explosive performance. Our value plays were mediocre. DK Metcalf finished with 15.1 DK points, 20th among wide receivers, and Geno Smith performed well under expectations with only 13.2 DK points. Onward to Week 17!

Optimal Options

If money is no object, here are the best plays at each starting spot based on the Week 17 rankings over at 4for4.

Justin Fields, QB CHI (Elite FP: $217, Rare FP: $31)

In Week 10, Justin Fields dropped 43.38 DK points on Detroit and finished as the QB1 overall. We’re going back to him in Week 17. Fields is the third-ranked quarterback on the week at 4for4, projecting him for 23.8 DK points. Chicago is a six-point road dog against the Detroit Lions. Detroit gives up the most schedule-adjusted points in the league to enemy quarterbacks, and the Bears have a 23.25-point implied team total, the 10th-highest of the week.

Christian McCaffery, RB SF (Elite FP: $380, Rare FP: $35)

McCaffery had a floor kind of game last week, but we know he has the ceiling to finish as the top-scoring player in all of fantasy in any given week. Week 17 could definitely be that week. McCaffery is the top-ranked running back at 4for4 and is projected to score 24.3 DK points. San Francisco is an early seven-point road favorite against the Las Vegas Raiders, who give up the most schedule-adjusted fantasy points to opposing running backs. The Niners have a 25.25-point implied team total, the fifth-highest of the week.

Justin Jefferson, WR MIN (Elite FP: $520, Rare FP: $45)

Jefferson is ranked as the WR1 overall at 4for4 and is projected to score 25.9 DK points with the bonus for 100 yards receiving. The Minnesota Vikings are an early three-point home favorite against the Green Bay Packers, who give up the 12th-fewest schedule-adjusted fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. The Vikings have a 22.5-point implied team total, the 12th-highest of the week.

Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR DET (Elite FP: $350, Rare FP: $30)

St. Brown is ranked as the WR3 overall at 4for4 and projects to score 19.1 DK points. Detroit is a six-point home favorite against the Chicago Bears, who are giving up the eighth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. The Lions have a 29.25-point implied team total, the highest of the week.

Stefon Diggs, WR BUF (Elite FP: $750, Rare FP: $45)

Diggs hasn’t had more than 60 receiving yards or scored a touchdown since Week 13, but it feels like he is due in a massive AFC matchup that could be a playoff preview. He is the eighth-ranked wide receiver at 4for4 and projects to score 17.2 DK points. Buffalo is a one-point road favorite against the Cincinnati Bengals, who give up the second-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points to enemy wide receivers. The Bills have a 25.25-point implied team total, tied for the fourth-highest of the week.

Value Plays

Jared Goff, QB CHI (Elite FP: $175, Rare FP: $24)

Goff has been up and down this season, but as of late, the Lions are playing lights-out football, and he finished as the QB2 overall last week. Goff is ranked as the sixth-best quarterback this week by 4for4 and projects to score 22.4 DK points. The Lions are a six-point home favorite against the Chicago Bears, who give up the fifth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. The Lions have a 29.25-point implied team total, the highest of the week.

Chris Godwin, WR TB (Elite FP: $280, Rare FP: $20)

The Buccaneers have had a rocky 2022 NFL season, and it has called into question Tom Brady’s ability to support elite fantasy options. Still, Godwin has been rock solid as a high-volume fantasy WR2 play. He is ranked as the WR13 this week at 4for4 and is projected to score 14.6 DK points. Tampa Bay is a three-point home favorite against the Carolina Panthers, who give up the ninth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. The Buccaneers have a 21.5-point implied team total, the 15th-highest of the week.

That’s going to do it for this week’s edition. If there’s something you would like covered in a weekly strategy article for DraftKings Reignmakers contests, please feel free to reach out to me on Twitter!
