Bills RB Zack Moss has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, according to Chris Brown of BuffaloBills.com.

Moss is a big loss for a team that has had success running and passing the ball with their backs through two weeks. Devin Singletary will get majority of the carries Sunday.

Joe Buscaglia of The Athletic believes the Buffalo Bills' match-up against the New York Jets favors Zack Moss. "The Bills should be able to win with their offensive linemen using physicality up the middle to take advantage of the Jets’ defense without Mosley," wrote Buscaglia. "That would allow Moss to use his between-the-tackles vision to overpower the Jets’ smaller inside linebackers. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Brian Daboll frequently attack downhill with Lee Smith and 12 personnel, which also favors Moss and would take talented nickel corner Brian Poole off the field. None of this means (Devin) Singletary won’t still be involved on early downs."

Buscaglia also wrote that third down work favors Singletary.

Buscaglia offers a compelling argument for Moss to earn at least a 50/50 share of work. If the Bills were to pull away from the Jets, this scenario would favor Moss and throw Singletary users in fantasy football to tilt off the face of the earth. The Bills' backfield will be touch-and-go for the foreseeable future save for an injury or decline in play from either running back.

According to The Athletic, Zack Moss has a chance to emerge as the starter if Devin Singletary continues to struggle in pass protection, and with holding onto the ball.

He is a better pass protector than Devin Singletary, and is just as capable (while likely not as explosive) as a receiver. He went on to say this about the potential workload split between SIngletary and Moss: “What could affect all of that is how Singletary performs in blitz pickup and ball security. The Bills love Singletary’s vision and instincts, but if his fumbling issues carry over into 2020, Moss could take over as the lead back. Singletary fumbled twice in a shortened camp and McDermott has highlighted ball security as a critical area for him. Moss already looks like he belongs and will provide the physical edge the Bills need in the run game. His vision and explosiveness between the tackles have popped.”. Devin Singletary’s fumble woes seem to have followed him to his sophomore season. While most are expecting a breakout from Singletary, the team did draft Zack Moss, a powerful runner who has continued to impress in camp as both a runner and a receiver. According to The Athletic, “Singletary had the highest fumble rate of any running back in the NFL who played regularly in 2019”. If Singletary continues to put the pill on the ground, he is going to allow Moss to eat into a larger share of the workload than many are projecting. This will be something to keep an eye on during the season, as if this issue persists, it may be Zack Moss, and not Singletary, who ends up leading the team in carries.

After a day off, Devin Singletary battled back for his best practice of camp Sunday.

The second-year runner trusted what he saw forming in front of him and used his vision and quickness to put together several solid rushes between the tackles. Singletary looked confident and decisive and held on to the ball Sunday.

Singletary’s positive day also came during the least productive session from Zack Moss through six days of camp.

Up to that point, the story said Moss had been outplaying Singletary and taking advantage of all his chances. Still Singletary's fantasy value takes a hit this year we think. Moss likely will be the short-yardage back, taking over for Frank Gore, with Singletary the main pass-catching back. We rank Singletary 31st among our RBs with Moss coming in at 42nd.

Frank Gore acknowledged that teammate LeVeon Bell is "the lead dog" in the New York Jets' backfield, but that doesn't mean the age-defying Gore will be content in a token role. He's coming off a season in which he felt he could've reached the 1,000-yard mark for the 10th time in his career.

"I feel like if they would've let me play, I would've had over 1,000," Gore said Monday, referring to the Buffalo Bills.

Gore rushed for 422 yards in the first seven games, but he was replaced by rookie Devin Singletary and finished with only 599 -- a career low.

This is not the first story we've seen about Gore having more than just a backup role in the offense. HC Adam Gase never seemed thrilled to have Bell in the backfield, and given how much Gase loved having Gore in Miami, it's possible Gore is more than just a backup to Bell this season. It sounds like Gore will be an option to help lessen Bell's workload and also keep him healthy.

According to ESPN's Marcel Louis-Jacques, Buffalo Bills running back Devin Singletary may operate as the featured back until Zack ‘Moss proves he deserves a larger share’ of the backfield touches.

Devin Singletary could very well start the 2020 season with a much larger role than many may have him pegged for. Rookie running back Zack Moss will make his presence felt in the backfield, but there is ample reason to believe that Singletary will still see more than enough touches to outperform his current ADP as the 22nd running back off the board. In his final eight games of 2019, Singletary racked up 131 carries for 603 rushing yards (4.6 yards per carry), and 20 receptions for 136 receiving yards, compared to just 187 yards from scrimmage on 68 touches for Frank Gore. Zack Moss will have value due to his goal line work and projected late season role, but Singletary could exceed 250+ touches if he keeps up his second half pace and workload split.

Joe Buscaglia: I believe the Bills would like to get Singletary more involved in the passing game this year, too. He’s an underrated route runner and his open-field vision makes him a potentially dangerous pass catcher. Singletary would likely draw the assignment of a linebacker or safety, and the Bills will like that matchup with how often he makes people miss.

Devin Singletary averaged 3.4 targets per game in 2019, but Buscaglia expects that number to rise in his sophomore season with the Bills. The Buffalo back is ranked as RB29 in half-PPR formats on 4for4.com and is leaving draft boards as a late-fourth to fifth-rounder.

Devin Singletary's 20 carries Sunday matched his previous season total and his 59% usage rate on 41 snaps marked by far a career-high; his usage rate for the season was a paltry 22% entering Week 9.

He produced 140 total yards in Buffalo's win against the Redskins, doing so on a career-high 24 touches. The yardage marked the most by a Bills player since LeSean McCoy racked up 147 yards against the Patriots in 2017, the story said. Gore wasn't quite phased out, collecting 11 carries but only producing 15 yards. The good news is the Bills next two games are vs. the Browns and Dolphins so it looks like Singletary's workload and production could stay on the rise.
