We'd like to think this would equate to a massive workload for Jones, but with no Playoff implications for the Vikings on the line, we could see a rotation with Scott and Johnson. Jones can still be considered an RB2, just closer to the RB3 fringe than the top-12.

Oliver is techincally in the TE streaming realm, but you can probably find yourself a better option on the WW.

Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy left Sunday’s win over the Giants with a right hand injury and he would have missed practice on Monday for the same reason.

The Vikings turned in an estimated injury report ahead of Thursday’s game against the Lions and it showed McCarthy as a non-participant. X-rays of the hand were negative, but more tests were planned for Monday to determine the extent of McCarthy’s injury.

Running back Jordan Mason (ankle) and center Ryan Kelly (concussion) also would have missed practice after being injured on Sunday. Tight end T.J. Hockenson (shoulder) and right tackle Brian O’Neill (heel) were the other Vikings listed as out of practice.

Running back Aaron Jones (ankle) and defensive lineman Javon Hargrave (thigh) were listed as limited. Tight end Gavin Bartholomew (back), running back Ty Chandler (knee), and linebacker Austin Keys (ankle) were listed as full participants.

Jones was limited at running back but if he and Mason would happen to be out, it would leave the RB duties to Scott and Chandler. Brosmer would be in line to start if McCarthy can't go at QB.

The Vikings momentarily were without both Mason and Aaron Jones, who also suffered an ankle injury. Jones has since returned to the game. Jones and Zavier Scott are currently the top two running backs for Minnesota.

Good news for McCarthy's development, but we're not sure it should move the radar for fantasy much, considering his recent form. He should safely be ignored in typical leagues, while Jones could be leaned on against a Vikings defense that ranks 30th in RB aFPA. Consider him on the RB2/3 fringe.

Aaron Jones is likely to be considered day-to-day.

The Vikings don't believe the injury is considered serious, and the day to day tag gives him a shot to play in Week 14. If he can't go, Mason will see more work. Owners counting on Jones will want to monitor the injury report this week. The Vikings have an early Sunday game at home against the Commanders in Week 14.

We shouldn't expect a ton out of Jones in Week 8, but it's enough to damper Mason's outlook. It's probably best to take a wait and see approach on the former while the latter falls into RB2/3 territory

This means Jones could be ready to go as quickly as Thursday night against the Chargers. However, that's not yet a lock. We'll need to monitor the practice reports to get a better idea. Jones would cut into Mason's workload, and especially be used in the passing game.

Mason becomes RB1 and Akers is signing to the practice squad, the report went on to say. Scott and Chandler are also on the roster, but the Vikings seem to like Akers so he could be elevated sooner than later. The bigger news here is Mason should see a much bigger workload with Jones out of action.

Hamstring injuries can be tricky, so we could be looking at multiple weeks without Jones in the lineup. However, it's another injury to monitor this week as the Vikings are very shorthanded on offense with the recent loss of QB J.J. McCarthy (ankle) as well. Mason should get the start, and a bulk of the work, if Jones is indeed out in Week 3. It's a nice matchup against the Bengals, however, Carson Wentz is expected to be under center so the Bengals defense could focus on stopping Mason.

No NFL coach would spell out a detailed strategy in public, of course, and the truth is that the split of carries among Aaron Jones, Jordan Mason, and perhaps fourth-year backup Ty Chandler will vary based on game circumstances. But early training camp practices have provided some clues. Jones received the initial snaps in most drills, while Mason opened Monday's full-pads practice with the first carry of first-team drills.

Seifert goes on to say, "While it appears unlikely that the split between Mason and Jones will be 50-50, early indications are that it will be much closer to that than the Vikings' previous splits under O'Connell."

We would still put the majority of the workload on Jones' plate, but Mason should still get enough touches to be fantasy relevant. Think of them as a respective RB2 and RB4.
