Campbell was quoted in the post saying about Gibbs, "He's trending the right way and we're hoping the day after the Pittsburgh game, we're gonna get a lot of guys back." Included in Campbell's quote, and also according to the post, is TE Laporta. Gibbs and LaPorta are both dealing with hamstring injuries.

Good news on Lions Pro Bowl RB Jahmyr Gibbs. Sources say the hamstring injury he suffered is not considered significant, but the team will be very cautious with rest and rehab to make sure he’s 100% healthy. My understanding is he should be ready for Week 1 vs the Rams.

It looks like the projected Gibbs/Montgomery split is still intact, making them both very fantasy-viable. If Gibbs were to miss anytime, Montgomery should be considered an RB1.

This will be worth monitoring until we find out just how serious this is. Hamstring injuries, of course, can be very tricky. If Gibbs has to miss any time or games to start the season, Montgomery would likely get a bulk of the work with Reynolds next up. The loss of the dynamic Gibbs would certainly change the Lions offensive attack. The rookie Vaki could get to see more time if Gibbs is out for a while.

For much of this season, the Lions haven’t needed to decide how to split snaps between running backs David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs because the two haven’t been healthy at the same time. But that’s about to change, and Lions head coach Dan Campbell says both players will get plenty of opportunities.

Montgomery appears likely to return from his rib injury Sunday against the Chargers, and Gibbs is coming off his best game last week against the Raiders, the story said. When healthy, Montgomery has been the starter, and it appears that will remain the case for the rest of the season, the story added. The story also speculated Gibbs’ breakout game against the Raiders likely means he’ll get close to an equal workload going forward.

Lions’ HC Dan Campbell told reporters that rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs will play vs. the Ravens and added this: “Certainly I think he’s going to need to take the load of (the work)….I’d like to say we’re going to be careful with him, but the reality is we need him.”

Dan Campbell has been pretty straight forward with his coach speak this year, which means we can't leave Gibbs out of lineups this weekend. Craig Reynolds can be considered an RB3 or FLEX play, as he may still garner the David Montgomery goal-line work.

X-rays were negative for Montgomery, which was good news, but it still sounds like Monty will miss at least a game. Gibbs was out with a hamstring injury but it sounds like he may be close to returning. If not, Reynolds would be next man up. He carried 10 times but for just 15 yards after taking over for Montgomery. Reynolds did add two catches for 28 yards. The Lions play at the Ravens in Week 7 and then Monday night of Week 8 before a Week 9 bye. There obviously wasn't an exact timeframe given for Montgomery, but it's possible the team's bye week factors in any decisions.

The Lions are at the Ravens next week in an early Sunday matchup, so we'll have a good idea by then about Montgomery's status. Even after leaving Week 6 with just six carriers, Monty is still averaging over 23 carries per game this season.
