All Aromashodu and other Bears need is a chance

Bears WR Devin Aromashodu was scheduled to open the season as the third receiver until the injury pushed Johnny Knox into that role. Knox, a fifth-round pick, was named a Pro Bowl alternate on Tuesday for his work as a return man. If someone had told you before the season that a player who came to the team in the Denver deal was going to be under Pro Bowl consideration, you'd have figured it would be Cutler, not the guy taken with a pick that came in that deal.

Knox was carted off the field on Monday night and will miss the season finale in Detroit. The hope is that Hester will be back in the lineup, but clearly the rapport Cutler has with Aromashodu trumps any understanding he has with any other receiver.

Coach Lovie Smith admitted Aromashodu's performance was enough to warrant consideration as a starter in the future.

''You have to say yes to that by his play,'' Smith said. ''He's been outstanding with what he's done. But we have a number of guys that have shown us throughout the [year] that they can be the starter and be the guy that can take over a game. He definitely did that [Monday] night.''
