Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh created a stir in the fantasy football world last week when he spoke about his expectations for rookie running back Kenneth Dixon.
"I would love to see Kenneth Dixon on the field more," Harbaugh said.
How much of an increased workload can one project for Dixon? Expectations should be tempered.
Under Harbaugh, the Ravens have rarely relied on a rookie running back. Ray Rice averaged 10.7 touches per game in his first NFL season in 2008. Buck Allen never received more than 10 touches in a game as a rookie last season before Justin Forsett suffered a season-ending injury. No other rookie running backs got more than 115 touches for Baltimore. That's why it would go against the Ravens' track record to put the running game on the shoulders of Dixon. But it's reasonable to project more than a handful of touches for him, which has been the case in his first three games.
