The Top 13 Rookie Defensive Linemen To Target in 2026 IDP Fantasy Football Leagues
Draft capital matters and is the driving force behind the start of 2025 IDP rookie drafts, but landing spots are equally, if not more, important. It turns out it's hard to accumulate fantasy points when you can't earn snaps. As is the case with any league, your scoring format and positional requirements are crucial in determining how to prioritize these players, but for now, I'll take a high-level look at a few key players who have a path to playing time for the 2026 season and who are priorities in rookie drafts this summer.

2026 IDP - Rookie Defensive Linemen
Tier 1
Rueben Bain Jr. (DE) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Most teams had Bain Jr. off the board well before pick 15, and GM Jason Licht admitted there were very few scenarios in which he'd even be available. He was, and Tampa pounced. The arm length concern, 30 7/8 inches, which is genuinely short for an edge rusher at this level, is the reason he slid, and it's the wrong reason. Watch the tape. Bain Jr. doesn't win with length. He wins with violence, leverage, and a motor that has no off switch.
Bain Jr. led all FBS edge rushers in total pressures and PFF Wins Above Average in 2025, posting a 92.8 PFF grade, and he racked up 20.5 sacks, 33.5 tackles for loss, and four forced fumbles across three seasons at Miami. Bain Jr. is a guy who plays 65 snaps a game, affects the run on first down, and then wrecks the quarterback on third. He put up five sacks across four College Football Playoff games when the competition was at its highest.
For IDP, this is about as clean a situation as you'll find for a Day 1 edge rusher. Tampa Bay had been searching for an answer at the position, and now Bain Jr. walks into a Todd Bowles defense that already loves to blitz and pressure. They've also added A'Shawn Robinson and Al-Quadin Muhammad to the defensive line group this offseason, but Bain Jr.'s snap rate shouldn't be impacted. Bain is one of the safest snap-share bets in this entire rookie class and the top redraft target.
Akheem Mesidor (DE) - Los Angeles Chargers
Yes, he'll play the 2026 at 25 years old. That's the first thing every ranking list is going to say about him, and it's going to be used as a reason to dock him in rookie drafts. The age concern is real for dynasty managers thinking in five-year windows. For 2026 IDP production? It's basically irrelevant. Working under the tutelage of Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, Mesidor exploded for 63 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 12.5 sacks while forcing four fumbles and earning First-Team All-ACC and Second-Team All-America honors at Miami last season.
The landing spot is the other reason to pay attention. Odafe Oweh departed for Washington, D.C. via free agency, creating a clear third-edge role need alongside Khalil Mack and Tuli Tuipulotu. His ability to rush off the edge or reduce inside gives new DC Chris O'Leary genuine schematic flexibility. The age narrative will suppress his ADP in rookie drafts, but he has as much Year 1 upside as anyone in this class. Sure, he might not be a big part of your 2032 squad, but that's a tomorrow problem.
