The Training Room: Week 11 Injury Updates

Week 10 actually brings a little reprieve with regards to injury as there weren't as many new injuries that occurred. A reduction in new injuries allows fantasy rosters to get healthy as fantasy playoffs are not very far away. With that being said, our on the mend section continues to have a significant amount of fantasy names that need your attention to determine how soon they might be back and if you need to continue to prepare without your household fantasy names. **Updated 11/17/19

Matthew Stafford, QB Lions

Injury: Back Fractures

Timetable For Return: 1-3 Weeks, Ruled OUT Week 11

Potential Replacement: Jeff Driskel

Comments: Stafford's current status depends on the severity of discomfort he is dealing with and whether or not the sports medicine staff thinks he would do any further damage if he were to try and play through the injury. My guess is that we are looking at at least another week to give his back some time to rest and recover, and then the Lions will re-evaluate to see where he stands.

Devonta Freeman, RB Falcons

Injury: Sprained Foot

Timetable For Return: 2-3 Weeks, Ruled OUT Week 11

Potential Replacement: Brian Hill, Kenjon Barner,

Comments: Freeman hurt his foot towards the end of the first half and then did not return. A sprained foot is not a great sign as they normally are multi-week injuries depending on the severity, especially for a running back who relies on a lot of change of direction and cutting, as Freeman does.

Jack Doyle, TE Colts

Injury: Sprained Shoulder

Timetable For Return: Expected to play Week 11

Potential Replacement: Eric Ebron

Comments: Any worry about Doyle not playing should be put to rest as he was able to practice later this past week without setbacks. The TE position has been pretty volatile this year but Doyle could be used if you struggling to find help.

Austin Hooper, TE Falcons

Injury: Sprained MCL

Timetable For Return: 4 Weeks, DNP Wednesday

Potential Replacement: Luke Stocker

Comments: Hooper is dealing with a sprained knee and the projection of him missing a month means the sprain isn't too significant. Stocker isn't really an option in this offense as I'm sure Matt Ryan will rely more on his receivers with Hooper sideliend.

Trey Burton, TE Bears

Injury: Strained Calf

Timetable For Return: Put On Injured Reserve

Potential Replacement:
Ben Braunecker

Comments: Burton never really got an opportunity to showcase his skillset this year as the Bears offense has been a mess and Burton's health felt like it never really got to 100%. The TE position is already thin to begin with so make sure you find another option if you have Burton on your roster.

Ty Johnson, RB Lions

Injury: Concussion

Timetable For Return: Removed from injury report

Potential Replacement:
J.D. McKissic, Paul Perkins

Comments: Johnson has been cleared from the concussion protocol and is expected to play Week 11. Johnson should get his normal workload against a Cowboys defense that is ranked 23rd against the run.

Matt Breida, RB 49ers

Injury: Low Ankle Sprain

Timetable For Return: 1-3 Weeks, Ruled OUT Week 11

Potential Replacement: Tevin Coleman, Raheem Mostert

Comments: Breida tweaked the same ankle he was having issues with earlier in the season and is expected to be sidelined at least one week and potentially longer depending on how he recovers. Low ankle sprains do recover quicker than high ankle sprains, but because this is a re-aggravation to the initial injury, it could take a little longer for him to get back to 100%.

Emmanuel Sanders, WR 49ers

Injury: Ribcage Injury

TImetable For Return: Game Time Decision, Expected to play Week 11

Potential Replacement: Deebo Samuel, Marquise Goodwin

Comments: Sanders left on Monday night's game with the rib injury and has not practiced at all this week. Adam Schefter has reported that although Sanders is questionable, he is expected to play through the rib injury. Rib injuries are always risky due to possibly re-aggravating it getting tackled or driven into the ground. I would say use him as you normally would but if you have better options then consider those.

Jordan Howard, RB Eagles

Injury: Stinger

Timetable For Return: Ruled OUT For Week 11

Potential Replacement: Jay Ajayi

Comments: Howard will not play Week 11 as he still wasn't cleared for contact in practice all this week due to the stinger he's recovering from. The fact that he practiced all week is a good sign for his availability as soon as next week when the Eagles face the Seahawks.

David Montgomery, RB Bears

Injury: Low Ankle Sprain

Timetable For Return: Game Time Decision Week 11

Potential Replacement: Tarik Cohen, Ryan Nall

Comments: Montgomery rolled his ankle on Wednesday, didn't practice Thursday, but was back to limited on Friday. He will truly be a game time decision and with the Bears playing on Sunday night, this is a tough situation to gauge. If he does play, he'll be at less than 100% so if you have other solid options I would plug those in before considering Montgomery.

On the Mend

Jacoby Brissett, QB Colts

Injury: Sprained MCL

Timetable For Return: Full participant

Potential Replacement: Brian Hoyer

Comments: The expectation is that Brissett will return earlier than the normal timeframe for a typical MCL sprain. Brissett did say last week that he was feeling much better after sustaining the injury and the report that he's expected to start Week 11 does support that notion. Barring any setbacks, get Brissett back into your lineups and upgrade the Colts skilled position players as well.

George Kittle, TE 49ers

Injury: Sprained Knee/Ankle

Timetable For Return: 1-2 Weeks, Doubtful for Week 11

Potential Replacement: Ross Dwelley

Comments: The fact that Kittle was doubtful for Monday's game against the Seahawks should tell you that Kittle is dealing with injuries that may sideline him more than just one game. It's unclear which body part is giving him more trouble at this point, but hopefully, we'll get better clarity around his health as the TE position has been really thin in terms of consistent production this year.

Adam Thielen, WR Vikings

Injury: Strained Hamstring

Timetable For Return: 2-3 Weeks, Ruled OUT Week 11

Potential Replacement: Stefon Diggs, Olabisi Johnson, Kyle Rudolph

Comments: Thielen will continue to work his way back from a hamstring re-aggravation that he sustained two weeks ago. Like we've discussed in the past, re-aggravations have a tendency to take longer to recover compared to the initial injury. The Vikings have a bye week next week so expect to see Thielen ramp things up in hopes of being ready after the bye.

Evan Engram, TE Giants

Injury: Sprained Foot

Timetable For Return: 2-3 Weeks

Potential Replacement: Rhett Ellison

Comments: Engram's foot issues need to be carefully monitored as you have to remember that Cam Newton was diagnosed with a midfoot sprain when he initially hurt his foot and then was ultimately shut down for the season due to a Lisfranc sprain. There's no indication that Engram is dealing with a Lisfranc sprain currently, but the foot can be tricky when attempting to ramp up activity as it is the first thing that takes on the stress of running and cutting.

T.Y. Hilton, WR Colts

Injury: Strained Calf

Timetable For Return: 2-3 Weeks, Ruled OUT for Week 11

Potential Replacement:
Zach Pascal, Parris Campbell

Comments: It'll be hard to gauge where Hilton is in his recovery from a calf strain that he sustained midweek in Week 9. Until we see him back out on the practice field I would not expect Hilton back anytime soon.

Will Fuller, WR Texans

Injury: Strained Hamstring

Timetable For Return: Week-To-Week, Ruled OUT for Week 11

Potential Replacement: Kenny Stills

Comments: I think this is a smart move by the Texans to ensure that Fuller will be 100% before he returns back to the field. It sounds like he's close to returning, but ultimately he'll continue to be week to week until we see him back at a full practice.

Brandin Cooks, WR Rams

Injury: Concussion

Timetable For Return: 1-2 Weeks, Ruled OUT for Week 11

Potential Replacement: Josh Reynolds

Comments: Cooks did return to a limited practice Friday before Week 10 so that is an encouraging sign that he's trending in the right direction. However, Sterling Shepard practiced in limited fashion for multiple weeks after his second concussion before getting back on the field so it doesn't necessarily mean that Cooks will return in Week 11. However, he could potentially be back sooner than later so keep an eye on any updates that we get from the Rams this week.

Dede Westbrook, WR Jaguars

Injury: Strained Shoulder/Neck

Timetable For Return: Full participant in practice all week

Potential Replacement:
Chris Conley, Keelan Cole

Comments: Westbook returns to a full practice after the bye which is a good sign that he's fully over the issues he was experiencing two weeks ago. He'll resume his starting role this weekend against the Colts.

Corey Davis, WR Titans

Injury: Strained Hip

Timetable For Return: Week-To-Week

Potential Replacement:
A.J. Brown, Tajae Sharpe

Comments: It is unclear as to what type of injury Davis is dealing with but it was significant enough to sideline him for Week 10. It remains to be seen if Davis will be back at practice this week and my guess is they'll do some more testing on his hip if it continues to sideline him which hopefully gives us some better concrete recommendations as to what to expect from him moving forward.
