Seahawks say RB Kenneth Walker has earned more touches

Lost in the interceptions and the frantic comeback by the Seahawks on Sunday was another strong game for running back Kenneth Walker III.

That led to this comment Monday from head coach Mike Macdonald, one that could also have reverberations for the future.

“I think Ken’s showing that he’s earning more opportunities to get the ball,” Macdonald said.

Fantasy Impact:

Macdonald reiterated that wasn’t necessarily a statement on Charbonnet, who has been sharing playing time with Walker — Walker has 284 snaps to Charbonnet’s 279 — but more a reflection of how Walker has been playing of late. Walker went 16-67-0 and added 44 yards receiving. He had a 15-yard rushing TD called back on a penalty. The story added Walker has 19 runs of 10 yards or better, which is ninth in the NFL according to PFF. He's just 18th in carries however, so it seems the Seahawks are hoping a few more touches will produce even better numbers. Charbonnet had 11 carries for 37 yards vs. the Rams.

Seahawks RB Zach Charbonnet, who is listed as questionable on the injury report, is expected to play tonight against the Cardinals. Charbonnet has been dealing with a foot injury, but was a full participant in practice on Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact:

The Seahawks' backfield has been all over the place through the first three games, from a seemingly 50/50 split to Walker absolutely blowing Charbonnet out of the water in efficiency to the latter missing last week's game. We expect Walker to maintain the lead in touches but his teammate's return puts him closer to RB3 status than locked-in RB2 land. Charbonnet is a lower-end RB3/4 though he does have touchdown upside.

As Yates said, it is undoubtedly Kenneth Walker time. Consider him a top-15 play with top-5 upside after his fantastic 18.3-point performance in Week 2.

Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker missed practice for the second straight day on Monday, but head coach Mike Macdonald said it’s part of the team’s approach to making sure Walker is good to go for the start of the season.

“We have a plan for Ken, and we’re sticking to the plan,” Walker said, via Brady Henderson of ESPN.com.

Fantasy Impact:

Walker missed time with foot soreness earlier in camp and Macdonald said that the rest is part of the team’s desire to manage his workload heading into September, the story said. Anyone who owns Walker may want to make an effort to have Charbonnet on their roster as well. Walker's ADP is the early 4th round and Charbonnet's is the 10th. Charbonnet, as we talk about in his profile, has produced elite numbers when given extended work.
