Eagles bring back WR Markus Wheaton; WRs Mack Hollins, Alshon Jeffery out Week 1

The Eagles cut veteran wide receiver Markus Wheaton on their way to 53 players, but they reversed course on Tuesday.

Wheaton is back with the team after they placed tight end Richard Rodgers on injured reserve. Rodgers has a knee injury and could return after eight weeks on the list should the Eagles decide to use one of their two return slots.

Fantasy Impact: 

Wheaton is back with Jeffery and Hollins ruled out for Thursday, the story said. Wheaton suffered through a hamstring injury, the same injury which limited him last year with the Bears. Wheaton likely won't make a huge fantasy impact despite his return.

Eagles WRs Alshon Jeffery, Mack Hollins miss practice

Eagles wide receiver Mack Hollins was held out of the session with a groin injury, but said, via Jeff McLane of Philly.com, that he expects to be good to go for Thursday’s game against the Falcons.

Alshon Jeffery is eligible to practice with the team after being activated from the physically unable to perform list over the weekend, but he’s not ready to do so yet.

Fantasy Impact: 

Jeffery is a big loss for what is likely a couple of games. Agholor and Wallace should get a lot of targets as the Eagles top-two WRs. Expect the Birds to probably use two TE sets with Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, as well as RBs Darren Sproles and Corey Clement getting in the passing game as well.

Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery is expected to miss at least the first two games of the season.

Fantasy Impact: 

Per Schefter, the Eagles will activate Jeffery to the 53-man roster this weekend with optimism he could be back by Week 3. It's a bit of good news considering there were reports he would remain on the PUP list and miss the first six games. Agholor and Wallace should see a lot of targets at WR. But the Birds could go to two TE sets with Ertz and their top pick Geodert. RBs Darren Sproles and Corey Clement could also be involved in the passing game. Depending on who makes the cut, Hollins, Gibson or Aiken could see WR3 snaps with Jeffery out.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson was asked about that report on Tuesday [that WR Alshon Jeffery could start the season on the PUP list]. Pederson didn’t say if that was a possibility, but did say that the team likes where Jeffery is at this point.

“You know what, I’m not going to comment on that because we’re monitoring his progress, it’s day-to-day, we’re happy where he’s at, and we’ll continue to do that,” Pederson said, via Jimmy Kempski of Philly Voice. “But I’m not sure where that came from.”

Fantasy Impact: 

As we reported yesterday, Wallace and Agholor would see increased work should Jeffery start the season on the PUP list and miss the first six weeks. However, in the story, Pederson seemed to downplay that as a possibility.
