Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Karl Dorrell said prior to Sunday's game versus the Chiefs that the "best-case scenario" would involve Case Keenum putting himself in position to challenge Matt Schaub for the starting job.

That's exactly what happened in a 17-16 loss, in which Keenum displayed athleticism, a quick release and the ability to test an elite defense down the field.

Coach Gary Kubiak left the door open Monday for Keenum to hold onto the position through the bye week.

"Obviously, Matt's our starting quarterback," Kubiak said. "Case went in and played extremely well. I'm going to sit down, we're on a bye week, (and) I'm going to evaluate where we're at as a team and move forward form there."

Fantasy Impact:

The story goes on to say that Kubiak praised Keenum for playing mistake-free football and "handling the team very well" in a tough environment. Also, the Houston Chronicle's John McClain, a veteran translator of coachspeak, came away from Monday's press conference "fully expecting" Kubiak to stick with Keenum.
