For a team that so often runs a spread-style, four-wide receiver offense, the Broncos are starting to run quite low on bodies.

First, the team suspended Brandon Marshall on Friday.

Later that afternoon, Jabar Gaffney, the savvy veteran who was to replace Marshall as the starter, broke his thumb, creating some lineup challenges for the Broncos in Sunday night's game against Chicago.

The team opened the game with just two receivers — Eddie Royal and Chad Jackson. Brandon Stokley did not start, but he played his normal role as the third receiver.

Of the receivers who played with the starters in the 27-17 loss, only Royal had more than one catch — five for 44 yards, including a 24-yard catch-and-run on a button hook on Denver's first scoring drive. Rookie Kenny Mckinley had plenty of playing time in the second half, catching four passes for 75 yards.
